Because Erica paid Kendall a visit at the Pine Cone Motel, she was put in jail for violating the terms of her bail agreement. Greenlee was trapped in the steam room at the gym and Jake came to her rescue. After confronting Larry about his affair with Vanessa, Leo was badly beaten. Simone informed Hayley that Mateo was missing. Proteus ordered Mateo to kill or be killed. Laura lost her cool and lashed out at Brooke, claiming that everyone viewed Laura as trash. Ryan was upset that Liza had changed her mind about divorcing Adam. Once on the witness stand, Kendall testified that Erica called her and told her to set up a fund so that if she were found guilty, she would have the financial resources to flee the country.

Dixie was on the verge of dying from the same disease that killed her mother. Jake and Mia agreed to leave Pine Valley after Jake purchased a boat. Leo was torn between his mother and Greenlee. Kendall was distraught after Bianca remembered the night of Frankie's murder and Erica was found not guilty. Jackson charged Erica with perjury. Joe was forced to fire David after he failed to report for an important surgery.

Bianca informed Erica that when she turned eighteen, she planned to use the money in her trust fund to live independently of her mother forever. David lied to Anna when he assured her that he was not facing any serious threat. Vanessa was cleared of all charges after Larry's dead body was examined. This prompted David to remember a conversation he had with Vanessa about heart attack victims. Jake and Greenlee discussed their feelings for one another while they were trapped on the island. Vanessa injected Maggie with serum from a syringe as the young girl screamed in horror. Dixie decided to carry her baby full term, but she needed to do so out of town because she did not plan to tell Tad.

Jake, Greenlee, and Leo managed to escape from the island unharmed. Jake wanted to press charges immediately, but Leo ran off to warn Vanessa that she had finally been caught. Proteus (Vanessa) loaded her files on David's computer, implicating her son in the drug ring. Chris learned that he might be paralyzed and was convinced that David must be Proteus. Bianca recognized an earring found in Leo and Greenlee's loft as Maggie's, and feared for Maggie and Leo's lives. Derek busted into David's cabin and searched his computer files. Hayley told Mateo that she didn't believe David was Proteus. Vanessa pulled a gun on Leo.

Maggie was rescued from the abandoned church, but when she was alone in her hospital room, Vanessa attempted to suffocate her. Tad was very upset when he learned that Dixie had left town without saying goodbye. Chris regained movement of his legs. The FBI agent and Erica refused to admit their true feelings to each other. Leo tricked Vanessa into confessing and she later attacked him after being administered a psychotropic drug by an unknown assailant. She was restrained but later disappeared. Leo was appalled to see Greenlee and Trey arrive together at Brooke and Edmund's engagement party. Vanessa made a special appearance onstage, as she held a knife to a trembling Greenlee's throat while all of Pine Valley looked on, horrified.

Frank and Simone continued their relationship. Jake told Mia that she could trust him. Maria remembered meeting David for the first time. A slightly tipsy Brooke and Adam made love. Brooke was forced to hide Adam when Tad visited, and Tad kept asking her about the previous night. Everyone in Pine Valley gathered at Wildwind to remember Leo. Anna told David that she would like to name her child in memory of his brother. Kendall and Trey disagreed about what to do with Vanessa's diamonds, but Trey ultimately used them to get out of a sticky situation. Edmund tried to impress Maria on their date.

Edmund was upset to see Maria and David together and punched David. David did not press charges. Aidan and Kendall became closer after she helped him out of a difficult situation at work. Brooke and Adam could not resist temptation and made love again. JR and Jamie tried to give Tad a Halloween surprise, but Tad was overcome by memories of Dixie. Greenlee attempted to cope with the loss of her husband. Chris told Erica that he would like to be married at Christmas.

Mia agreed to go to New York to meet with Adam's lawyers about William's adoption. Liza mistakenly assumed that Adam and Mia were having an affair. During an intimate moment, Edmund referred to "Maureen" as Maria and it prompted Maria to quickly withdraw. Edmund and Maria were involved in a car accident and David instructed Maria over the phone how to perform a life-saving tracheotomy on Edmund. Maria showed flashes of previous medical knowledge, but all the while insisted that she had no idea what she was doing. Anna rescinded her decision to quit the force and took Jack's advice to take a leave of absence instead. Greenlee held an intruding Donald Steele at gunpoint, but Trey arrived before she made good on her threats to kill him. Anna told David that she wanted to give their marriage another chance.

Trey convinced Greenlee that she needed to return to Pine Valley to remind everyone of the love she shared with Leo. Maria took the stand at David's trial and revealed that he had wiped out both her memory and the memory of the corpse with his experimental drugs. Anna was shocked by Maria's testimony. The judge, however, was not as swayed, and declared David innocent for lack of evidence. Adam and Brooke became uneasy when it appeared that Liza knew that they were having an affair. She didn't, and suspected that Adam was sleeping with Mia. Mia learned that she might be pregnant.

Opal and Petey showed up at the Chandler Mansion dressed as Venusians instead of Venetians. At the party, Jake proposed to Mia before leaving for the hospital. JR tried to understand his girlfriend's point of view. A drunken Jamie blurted out that Brooke and Adam were having an affair. He then accused his mother of always dating men who were bad for her. Liza mistakenly assumed that Mia and Adam were sleeping together and pushed her sister out the attic window. Mia was rushed to the hospital. Aidan told Kendall that he would help her find Ryan. Erica was forced to decide whether or not she could live with Trey escaping prosecution.

Liza suffered much guilt when Mia asked her to take care of her son if she should die. Adam wondered about the whole story behind Mia's fall after Liza spoke cryptically. Jamie admitted to drinking at the ball, but unfortunately his girlfriend's parents forbade him to see her again. Maria began to remember pieces of her previous life with Edmund, which made her very happy. Trey and Kendall had Erica arrested after she broke into Kendall's room to look for Trey's confession. Greenlee planned to spend the holiday alone. Edmund was concerned when he learned that Brooke and Adam were having an affair.

After struggling to keep it a secret, Liza finally broke down and told Tad about her involvement in Mia's fall. Jake had trouble coping with Mia's condition and asked her to marry him in the hospital. Mia initially accepted his proposal, but later admitted that she didn't want to get married in the hospital. JR struggled to understand his relationship with Laurie, but things got complicated when he learned that her father was the school janitor. David told Maria and Edmund that he might be able to develop an antidote to Maria's memory loss. Edmund secretly made a deal with David. Aidan confronted Kendall about her feelings for Ryan. Bianca offered Greenlee a job at Enchantment. Greenlee declined, but it sparked a renewal.

Maria stopped Aidan from injecting David with his serum, but threatened to do the deed herself. She later decided against it. David drew a gun on the two and threatened to shoot Aidan if Maria didn't hand over the vial of the drug. Adam visited Liza in jail, where she told him of Mia's "accident." Anna was reinstated as police chief following a deal David worked out with the DA. Maddie and Sam were disappointed when Maria couldn't confirm that she'd spend Christmas with them. Simone viewed a tape of her brother's drug "crash," and Frank was forced to reveal that he'd filmed it.

Mia implored Frank not to seek out William because she feared it would upset their son's life, and she also enlisted Simone's help in getting Frank to back off. Jamie met Joni at the boathouse and headed to church-secretly-with her and her family. JR and Laurie also had a secret meeting, in which JR gave Laurie his class ring. Jake continued to demand that Liza be held accountable for Mia's "accident." Anna learned that Aidan was wanted by Scotland Yard for murder. Kendall and Greenlee hired Simone to be a part of their new cosmetics company. Aidan was wounded by a gunshot and Maria took him the barn at Wildwind to keep him out of harm's way. Mateo and Hayley left Pine Valley for the West Coast. Julia Santos returned to town.

Julia and Maria came face-to-face for the first time in years, but the reunion was far from happy. Aidan had a flashback of kissing a woman named Fiona. Mia informed Jake that their wedding was off. Erica prepared to square off with Greenlee, who was plotting to toppled Enchantment as the cosmetics company.

Aidan told Maria that he found Fiona shot to death with a note warning, "You're next." Aidan's hiding spot in the stable was nearly uncovered several times, but he managed to avoid capture. Aidan snuck into the main house at Wildwind and sent an email to someone, which read, "Come and get me." Anna was held at scissor-point by Reggie, a young man at the Front Street Clinic. Luis, another young man who made Reggie nervous, threatened Janelle. Greenlee, Kendall, Simone, Mia, Maggie, Joni, Laurie, and Liza had a New Year's Eve meeting to come up with a launch plan for their company, which they named Fusion. Erica had a meeting with Jordan Roberts, a man from her past. Bianca and Chris worried that Erica might be flirting with him.
