AMC's Eva LaRue opens up about her mom's battle with cancer

All My Children alum Eva LaRue (ex-Maria Santos) shares how she is staying strong through her mother's emotional battle with cancer.

Former All My Children star Eva LaRue (ex-Maria Santos) is going through a tough time at the moment, having revealed her mother, Marcie, is fighting cancer.

The California-born actress took to Instagram with a photo of her mom in a hospital bed with the following caption: "You got this momma... breath.. you got this. There's no one stronger or more resilient than you. As a single mom, conquering fear, financial anxiety and setbacks are part of the job. Yet you still managed to keep a huge, open and loving heart. You ingrained it in us and I succeed, persevere and thrive because of you. I Love you more than words can convey...You got this momma, you always have. #fuckcancer #mom #love"

LaRue, who got her start as Santa Barbara's Margot Collins in 1988 and starred on AMC on-again, off-again from 1993 to 2011, has been extremely active in support of cancer-affiliated causes throughout her career and has even served as a spokesperson for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and the Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. Her interest in supporting cancer causes stems from losing both her grandmother and great-grandmother to the disease.

"After seeing the effects of cancer within my own family, I felt compelled to step into a role that highlights the unique needs of cancer patients across the country," said La Rue when she became a Beckstrand spokesperson. "As national spokesperson for Beckstrand Cancer Foundation, I have an opportunity to be a voice of inspiration and strength for the vulnerable -- and provide help during one of the most difficult times of their lives. There is hope, and that is the message I want to share with them."

Added Lil Spitzer, executive director of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation, at the time: "Whether bringing attention to the psychosocial needs of children with cancer, or helping increase direct financial assistance to families coping with the burden of the disease, Eva is genuinely committed to making a positive and meaningful difference."
