People just saved 2020 by crowning Michael B. Jordan (ex-Reggie Montgomery, All My Children) this year's Sexiest Man Alive -- an honor the Black Panther actor jokes is "a good club to be a part of."

Daytime viewers saw Michael B. Jordan live out a fairytale storyline on All My Children, with his character, Reggie Porter, rising from being a Front Street thug to the adopted son of esteemed Pine Valley attorney Jackson Montgomery (Walt Willey). Now fans are seeing a similar feel-good trajectory for the actor himself -- he's gone from hard-working soap star to being crowned People's Sexiest Man Alive.

Jordan officially took over the honor from singer John Legend, and he jokes to the publication that he didn't see this day coming.

"Everybody always made that joke, like, 'Mike, this is the one thing you're probably not going to get.' But it's a good club to be a part of," he shares, adding that receiving the honor is "a cool feeling."

As many of his fans know, Jordan followed up his early AMC role (which he played from 2003 to 2006) with a slew of majorly successful films, including playing the son of legendary boxer Apollo Creed in the 2015 Rocky sequel Creed and portraying ruthless villain Erik Killmonger in 2018's Black Panther (in which he starred opposite Reggie's original portrayer, Chadwick Boseman). But it's not just his acting work that is getting attention. Jordan is also an accomplished producer, and his company, Outlier Society Productions, was the first to adopt an inclusion rider that mandates that filmmakers enlist a diverse cast and crew.

Says Jordan of his efforts to make positive changes in Hollywood, "I've been picking my moments to make the most impact. We can all take action -- big or small -- to help create the change we want to see."

Unfortunately, no matter how much he works toward making the world a better place and creating quality projects that make a mark in history, Jordan says there will always be negativity. But it's the way that he handles it that no doubt led to so many fans voting him as the sexiest man of the year.

"You could have all the good intentions in the world, and you'll still get controversy or some type of negativity thrown your way," the actor shares. "Sometimes you've just got to trust the universe, you know? You've got to just believe in yourself and do what you feel is really right. I think that adds up."

Time will tell what other amazing honors come Jordan's way as he continues his illustrious career, but for the moment, he says his family is thrilled about him being People's Sexiest Man Alive -- especially the women of his family.

"[They] are definitely proud of this one," the actor jokes, adding, "When my grandmother was alive, it was something that she collected, and then my mom naturally reads it a lot and my aunts as well. This is one that they're definitely going to have a special place for."

Previous winners of the prestigious Sexiest Man Alive title have included Brad Pitt, Sir Sean Connery, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Idris Elba, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Hemsworth, Adam Levine, Channing Tatum, and David Beckham.
