The lights have Dimmed: Nader, Dimitri out

Soap Central has confirmed that Michael Nader (Dimitri Marick) has, in fact, been released from his contract with All My Children.

While the soap world is abuzz from the news that Finola Hughes will soon be joining the cast of All My Children, there's some mumbling behind the scenes that many haven't heard.

It is said that AMC will have to shell out oodles of money to put Hughes on the roster... money that will have to be taken from other sources. The easiest way to free up some extra cash is to get rid of some of the actors already on staff. Another way would be to limit the number of high-budget sets being built. These could include sets like Sounds of Salsa and special-event sets like the tornado of a few years back and, more recently, the plane crash.

Nader's name had been floated around as the leading candidate for dismissal for quite some time. Nader has been with the show since September 1991. He has been a major player since his inception into the show, but recently he's not had a major storyline. A possible romance with Brooke (played by Julia Barr) never got off the ground and fans hoping for a Dimitri-Erica reunion won't likely get their wish any time soon either.

Several other veteran performers might also face the chopping block as their characters have had few storylines in recent months. They include Ruth Warrick (Phoebe), Eileen Herlie (Myrtle), James Mitchell (Palmer) and Mary Fickett (Ruth).
