As they stood in front of the minister listening to the service, David and Anna were confused as to when they were supposed to respond. When Earl asked if there was anyone who objected, his wife spoke up and said, "This wedding is all wrong." She told them that the wedding will be cursed if they didn't speak their wedding vows from their heart. David and Anna put on a charade of being lovebirds as Anna began her vows. She said she's looking forward to a great adventure and she's having a wonderful time. David thanked her for taking him as he is and challenging him. He also thanked her for being his wife. Mrs. Tuttle was very satisfied, and Earl concluded the ceremony, declaring them husband and wife. Afterwards, they told them that they were planning to honeymoon in Pine Valley. However, when Earl and his wife informed them that the road to Pine Valley is flooded, David and Anna decided to stay in the honeymoon suite next door. Later, in their room, Anna set some ground rules. She doesn't want to announce their marriage or risk jeopardizing her Chief of Police position. Secondly, if he becomes wealthy due to his research, she will get part of it. He agreed to both, and said he has no problem if she becomes wealthy out of this marriage. He said he'll never forget that she protected him against Jake. Mrs. Tuttle then showed up at their door with a package for "Mrs. Hayward." She's surprised when she opens it and sees a pink nightgown. David said it was supposed to be a negligee, and she doesn't have to wear it. Anna said that she will, however, and she goes into the bathroom to change.

In Maggie's room, Bianca told her that she can't run away. Bianca explained to her that her testimony could stop Vanessa. Maggie responded that she can't testify against her. Bianca continued to try to convince her as Maggie got dressed. Maggie explained that she's a nobody and people don't listen to nobodies. Before Maggie could leave, Bianca asked her what happened the night Frankie was killed. She responded, "Fine," and she sat on the bed to explain. She told her the sonnet spelled out, "Vanessa" and "evil." She went on to tell Bianca about Vanessa's henchman killing Frankie. When she finished, Bianca asked her how she could leave after what happened. She accused Maggie of letting Frankie down if she doesn't testify against Vanessa. Maggie got defensive and said that going up against Vanessa is pointless. Bianca told her that Frankie deserves justice. She said that if Maggie leaves Pine Valley, then she will make sure that Vanessa is nailed to the wall. She told Maggie that she wants justice and revenge against Vanessa as she left her room.

Vanessa told Dr. Zeke Torres (formerly Dr. Macmillan) that she didn't sign a release form for sodium pentothal. He said that he wouldn't need truth serum if she would tell the truth. He asked her who she is now, and she responded, "Rosie Wells." He told her that Rosie Wells has nothing to hide, but Vanessa Cortland does. He said that she isn't Vanessa Cortland or Rosie Wells, but she's Proteus. He then asked to speak to Proteus. Vanessa responded with comments about "Protein", and how her mother wanted her to eat much more protein. Zeke told her that he checked on her stay at the Hills Institute when she lived in California. She was checked in because she had a breakdown, and she was psychotic. He told her that he believes she's faking. She continued her act, but Zeke wasn't having any of it. He told her that he would love nothing more then to inflict the same pain on her that she's inflicted on others. He can't remain objective, so he told her that he's recommending another psychiatrist. If it was up to him, she'd be injected with something more powerful then truth serum.

As SOS Mateo wondered why Simone's cab hasn't arrived yet. Hayley told him to relax and enjoy the night. Later, Dr. Macmillan arrived at SOS He found Simone and asked her if she got her forgiveness from Mateo. She said no, and accused him of checking up on her to give her an "I told you so." He said he just came down because he wanted to make sure she was safe. He told her he was with a patient, and it made him worry about her. She immediately assumed it was Vanessa. She told him that she heard Vanessa had multiple personalities. Mateo overheard their conversation and walked up. He told Zeke that he better not let Vanessa out or he'll kill her. Zeke told him to be careful about making public threats. Simone and Zeke left as Hayley walked up. Mateo was irate as he walked behind the bar. Sensing his mood, Hayley told him to settle down. Mateo filled her in, and told her that Vanessa's going to plead insane. Hayley told him that it is possible, but Mateo said she isn't getting away with it. She showed him a picture of Lorenzo to settle him down. As they discuss their trip to Texas to get their son, a man showed up and served Mateo with a subpoena to testify in a pre-trial hearing. Unfortunately, he can't leave town. Later, Bianca showed up looking for Edmund. She was carrying a copy of Tempo with the Proteus story. Mateo asked to look at it, and Bianca gave it to him. He opened up the magazine and began reading with disgust. After Bianca left, Hayley asked Mateo if she seemed a little off to her. He ignored the question as he pointed out the story in Tempo. Hayley left to start the car up, as Mateo continued his preoccupation with the story.

Greenlee repeated that she loves Leo, and she's never been more sure of anything. Jake walked up and said, "Really? I was under the impression that you loved me." Greenlee reacted in shock that he was there. He accused her of running off with Leo, and she told him about the phone call she received about him. It made her think that he was suicidal. She repeated to Jake that she does love him too. Leo reminded her that she said she loved him. Frustrated, Greenlee responded, "All right, I love both of you!" Jake told her that he'll help solve her problem, he withdraws from all competition. He told Leo that she's all his and he walked out amid Greenlee's protests. Leo told her that she'll never love him and him alone and he's tired of begging. He walked out on her, too. Later, Jake and Leo both returned to Greenlee's loft. They began packing their belongings, as Greenlee walked in. Greenlee asked them what they're doing, and told them that this is ridiculous. They both accused her of being a little girl who always needs to be saved. Jake said that her life always appears more important then his. Leo told her that she isn't capable of being loved, and she doesn't know real love. Before they could leave, Greenlee stood in front of the door. She repeated that she loves them both, but they don't have the right to "spit on her." She makes a last second plea to both of them. She said that she didn't do anything wrong, but Jake responded that she did everything wrong. She said when they walk out that door, they're giving up the best thing that every happened to them. They both grabbed their bags and left.

Later, in her hospital room, Vanessa got a call from a distorted voice. It says, "Vanessa. Congratulations. You're still alive, but not for long. You'll be rewarded for what you've done. Very soon." Vanessa dropped the phone in fright.

Tuesday, March 12, 2002

In her hospital bed, Vanessa awakens to find Mateo staring at her. Mrs. Cortlandt says that she's supposed to have a "private suite." Mat advises her to "cut the crap." He snatches away the call button when she tries to grab for it and then grabs her hand. Vanessa acts as if she's one of her multiple personalities and asks who he is. Santos says he's a disgruntled employee who wants her dead. Vanessa tells him to stop the strong-arm tactics. Mateo asks if she remembers who he is, and she feigns dumbness. He reminds her that she forced him to sell drugs and at the same time threatened his family and almost had him killed. Vanessa begs him to let her go. Mat vows she will be punished. She reminds him there is security guard outside her door. Mat assures her that he's learned a few things about getting rid of guards. Vanessa asks what he wants. He wants the time she took from him, Hayley, and Lorenzo, which she can never give him back. He vows to give her a punishment that will be slow and painful. He lets her go and she closes her eyes as she rubs her hurt hands. When she opens her eyes back up, she's all alone.

Greenlee sleeps in the Enchantment office as a mysterious man walks in. He taps her shoulder and she jumps up. She looks up and in shock she says "Oh my God." It's Roger! Greenlee gives her dad a hug as he tells her that he tried her place before coming to her job. Greenlee claims she had work to finish up. Roger tells his daughter that he's been a bad father at a time when she needed him. What's more, he needs her more now than he ever has. He asks for money to get out of town so he won't get arrested. Greenlee wants to know what's going on. He begs her to just give him the money. She won't give him any money without an explanation. He reveals that he worked for Proteus and was drawn in to the drug ring. However, he didn't know it was Vanessa until he read the article in Tempo. Greenlee is in shock over the news. He assures her that he was a pawn in Proteus' game and demands to know if Greenlee is giving him the money. Greenlee calls her father a selfish pig and is upset that he has brought this on her after she has lost both Leo and Jake. Roger tries to apologize for his words. Greenlee says that they are both pathetic. Roger demands his daughter's help. "You can't have it", Greenlee spats. She's upset that Roger didn't even try to see if she was okay after the kidnapping. He says that he was trying to lay low and prevent being caught by the cops. She asks her father if he's ever done anything for someone else. She feels that he's only looking out for himself and doesn't give a damn about her. She then admits that he did give her one thing-the ability to take care and look out for herself. Roger continues to beg for her help. In the middle of their argument, the police burst in the office and arrest Smythe for his crimes. He begs his daughter to call a lawyer for him. Greenlee refuses and tells the cops to inform the D.A. that she'll be more than happy to testify against him in court. In the middle of everything, Mateo walks in. Roger continues to beg for her help. He's escorted out of the office by the two police officers. Mateo advises her to calm down. Greenlee tells him that he worked for the woman that tried to kill her. She needs to talk to someone about what has happened, but remembers that neither Leo or Jake would want to talk to her now. She apologizes for talking about her problems. Mat understands and later suggests that she be a little easier on her dad. Greenlee wonders why he's defending her dad. Mat tells her that Vanessa made an art at threatening her workers, including Roger. Greenlee asks if he stayed on with Proteus to protect her. Mateo admits Roger did it for her. Greenlee is surprised her dad actually did something to protect her. Mat advises her to try to find a lawyer for Roger. Greenlee wonders if Vanessa will ever be punished for her misdeeds and how to punish a person who has no feelings.

A wasted Leo sleeps on a park bench. He's awaken by Simone, who gives him some sunglasses and offers him a meal to cure his obvious hangover. Leo refuses to accept anything from the reporter. He advises her to back off. She blasts him for rejecting her help. Leo says the last thing he needs is another person who wants to rescue him. She asks if he thinks she's trying to pick him up. Leo thinks she may be doing just that. Simone assures him that no one would want a guy who looked like hell and smelled like a keg. She assures Du Pres that she's not desperate enough to pick up someone as obnoxious as him. Besides, she's already made a fool of herself by trying to seduce a happily married man and also getting a Fed killed. Simone says that she was just trying to help him out since Greenlee obviously dumped him. Leo assures her he didn't get dumped. Simone disagrees and points out nobody would want to hook up with him. He throws the food she bought him in his lap and calls him ungrateful. He asks why she's wasting her time talking to him. Simone agrees. After all, his mother royally screwed up her life. Leo blasts her for even mentioning her name after what she did to him, Greenlee, Frankie, and Maggie. Leo leaves the park, but comes back a little later when he can't get any money out the ATM to buy coffee. Leo apologizes to Simone for his actions earlier. She brushes it off. Leo wonders why he would have no money in his account and soon figures out Vanessa must have taken it. Leo can't believe that he not only has no money, but also no home. Simone mentions that she's just bought a new place. Leo asks why she's telling him about her new living arrangements. Simone says that since she no longer has a steady job, she needs to save money. He can help her move and she can cancel the movers she hired. He could also stay a couple of nights until he can figure out what to do next with his life. Leo wonders why. Simone says it's to save $500.00. Leo's not buying. Simone admits she feels sorry for the guy. Du Pres takes her up on her offer. Simone gives him the address and Leo's in shock. He realizes that it's the same building Greenlee lives in.

Back in Vanessa's hospital room, Mrs. Cortlandt tells Jack that a dark-haired man she didn't recognize threatened her and his name was Mateo. Jack calls in a female guard if Vanessa has had any visitors. Rosie Wells is her name, Vanessa spats to Montgomery. She assures that since her shift began last night, no one's been in her room. Vanessa assures that the guard is lying and mentions the call she received last night. She's confident the distorted voice was Mateo's and that he was threatening her. Jack says she doesn't have any phone privileges-or a phone-in her room. Vanessa looks around and is shocked to see there is no phone in the room.

In Elk Green, newlyweds Anna and David awake in bed together . David greets "Mrs. Hayward" with a seductive kiss. Anna pulls back and David assumes that the fun is over now that they're man and wife. David tells her how he enjoyed everything they did last night after the wedding. Anna gets out of bed and says she's starving. David's starving, too-for Anna. He pulls her back into bed as she reminds him that they only got married to prevent her from testifying against him in court. She wonders if she should be sending him there instead. Before she can answer, David finds out the storm is over and they can head back to Pine Valley. David tells Anna she's now free to turn him in. Anna assures he misinterpreted what she said. David says that they may have gotten married for nothing-he hasn't been charged for anything yet. He asks if she's miserable. She denies his accusation. Hayward assures her that she looks it. Anna wonders if they rushed into matrimony a little too fast. She wonders if either of them know the rules now. He reminds her that getting married was her idea. He also says that she has all the power in their relationship. He's shocked to see that she's already getting dressed. Anna figures its just time to get on the day. He kids her about sending out wedding announcements. David assures her that he won't spill the beans about their wedding until she can become chief of police. Anna asks him to help her put her necklace on. David can't resist kissing the back of her neck. The couple winds up kissing passionately and back in bed. Afterwards, Anna gets back up and makes an attempt to get dressed again. David finally puts on her necklace, but can't resist kissing her neck again. After suggesting David needs a shave, Hayward asks if she's going to be a nagging wife. She wonders if he's going to be a lazy husband who drinks beer and watches sports all day. David assures her that won't be him. He assures Anna that he does care about her. Anna knows that they will help each other out in their own ways. David seems disappointed in her views on her marriage, but keeps it from Anna. Anna wonders why she would say what she just said to him. David tells her that he'll check them out and she can get the car. He reveals that he has a little business to take care of after they get back to Pine Valley.

Later, a scream comes out from Vanessa's hospital room. The guard goes to see what the commotion is. The guard walks in to find newlyweds David and Anna holding flowers.

Ryan wakes up in his bed to find Kendall laying on him. Ryan asks her to wake up. When she opens her eyes, he asks if she slept well. "Like a rock" she answers. Ryan reminds Kendall she was supposed to sleep on the couch. Kendall feels his bed was a better option and asks if he wants to play. Just then, a knock is at the door. Kendall begs Ryan to get rid of whoever is at the door so they can have some fun. Ryan reminds her that she's supposed to be looking for a job today. Kendall has other plans and suggests that he take advantage of the fact that she's wearing his shirt in his bed. Erica continues to knock and a fed up Kendall goes to answer the door. Ms. Kane is shocked to find her daughter at the door and a shirtless Ryan in bed. Erica asks to speak to Ryan about Chris-alone. Kendall gets dressed and offers to get coffee for she and Ryan-but not her mother. After Kendall leaves, Ryan tells Erica he's not telling her anything about Kendall. Erica assures him that she's there strictly to talk about Mr. Stamp. She says that he's about the same, but she's worried about what will happen to him after he's released from the hospital. She wants to take him to her house, but he would never go for that if she suggested. Ryan says that he wouldn't be able to convince him to move into Ms. Kane's either. Erica asks if he wants his father to get better. Ryan assures her that he only wants him to recover. Beyond that, he is washing his hands out of it. Erica says that Chris loves him. Ryan doesn't believe it's true, despite the fact that he took a bullet for him. Erica tells Ryan that if he helps her with Chris, she will pay him enough money so he can move out of the Pine Cone and get a fresh start away from Kendall. After assuring Erica that he's not involved with Ms. Hart, he asks her who the hell she thinks she is. Like Chris, he refuses to be bribed by her. Erica tells him that she simply needs help with Chris. Ryan says that she's sorry Chris is rejecting her, but there's nothing he can do about it. He does admit that he won't give up on Chris to recover, and neither should she. He won't give up because of what he did for him. Kendall returns and tells Erica that it's time for her to go. Erica says that she and Ryan aren't finished, but he says they are. Erica leaves and Kendall is happy that he told Erica to leave. She notices Ryan seems upset and asks him what's wrong. Ryan remembers saying that he would never be like his father, but he told Erica that he was like Chris. Kendall assures him that it's no big deal. Ryan asks her if she ever feels like she's like Erica. "Good God no," hisses Kendall. Ryan wonders what he needs to do now. Kendall rushes out and tells Ryan she has to go on a job interview. After stepping outside, Kendall calls the hospital on her cell phone and asks for Chris's room number.

At the park, Erica meets up with Jackson and asks him if she tried to bribe Kendall to get out of town. Jack says he did, but it apparently it didn't work. Erica asks him what it would take to get Ms. Hart out of town permanently.

Wednesday, March 13, 2002

Mia arrived at the hospital per Jake's request. He told her he had a proposition for her and she was mildly intrigued until he started talking. When Jake finished describing his deeds, Mia ripped into him. She was stunned that he had arranged for an internship in physical therapy at the hospital for her, plus a job at the hospital that wouldn't interfere with the training program. Mia said Jake had done this to appease his guilty concience. Jake tried to deny it and Mia asked about Greenlee. Busted, Jake refused to go into details but admitted that he and Greenlee were no more. Mia told Jake to go save some other damsel in distress and walked away from him. Just then Joe walked over and told Jake that Vanessa wanted to see them.

David and Anna continued their visit with Vanessa in her hospital room. Vanessa was screaming and the guard came in to check. David told the guard that his mother was just overwhelmed with the news of his recent marriage and the guard left. David and Anna gave Vanessa details of their elopement. David said they'd come to see her every Sunday in prison. He turned to his blushing bride and said Vanessa looked a little jealous. He wondered if it was because Anna was everything Vanessa could never be: kind, decent, caring, ect and that Anna had won his heart forever. Vanessa burst out "Never, she'll never replace me in your heart!." David asked her why she thought she was irreplaceable and what her next move would be. Anna and David kept badgering Vanessa until she blurted out "I'm the star of this show, you can't replace me." Anna left David to talk to his mother. David told Vanessa that she was "playing to an empty house" but Vanessa kept up the pretense. David told her she was all washed up and gave her a mirror. He also told her she was going to either prison or an asylum. David then said that Anna was going to help him repair all the damage he'd done because of the way Vanessa had raised him. She just kept preening in the mirror while David said that with his new wife he'd finally become the man he was intended to be. His mother snarled at him (as Vanessa not Rosie Wells) "I made you with blood, sweat and more money than God!." David questioned her and she said she had financed all of his awards and grants throughout his life. David said that was garbage and that he went through med school on a full scholarship. Vanessa said she endowed the University with things like a new building, a foundation and a laboratory and they gave David a scholarship. David was stunned speechless for a moment and Vanessa went on to say that the only thing bigger than his ego was "mummy's pocket book." They continued arguing and she said she has a career's worth of cancelled checks to prove it. David ran out of the room extremely upset. In the lobby Anna tired to comfort David and said Vanessa couldn't take credit for his intelligence, his talent or his gift. She said David made himself an incredible physician, not Vanessa. David took it all in then told Anna that now she knows something else about him that no one else can find out. Anna said that it was ok, she's his wife. David said he always felt like Vanessa was looking over his shoulder, she was always a presence in his life. Anna told him Vanessa was gone now and he is free and she knows he will do great things.

Jake and Joe went to see Vanessa. She was in her "Rosie Wells" act and told the two doctors that Vanessa had been there. She said Vanessa told David she had financed his career with drug money and that David knew about it all along. She looked very smug as Joe and Jake raised their eyebrows. They left the room and contacted the hospital board. The two doctors walked through the lobby just in time to see David and Anna kissing. Joe told David the board was having an emergency meeting in 15 minutes and he must attend. Joe got a call and left. David asked Jake what this meeting was about and Jake said "We're going to nail your coffin shut!."

Ryan stepped out of the shower and into his room. He was startled to find the front door wide open and even more surprised to find Liza sitting on his bed. She didn't acknowledge him at first but finally told him she was totally stressed out. She asked about the shooting and Ryan told her that Chris took the bullet for him. He then told Liza that Chris is his father. Liza was surprised but still a little spacey. A knock on the door interrupted them and Ryan opened the door to find JR standing there. JR handed Ryan a wad of money. Liza jumped up and demanded to know what JR was trying to buy. She went crazy on Ryan and JR for dealing in drugs. Ryan tried to explain that he had loaned JR some money and that it was not for drugs. Liza didn't believe a word of it and she and JR kept yelling at each other. She wondered what JR's probation officer will have to say about him cutting school. JR told her there wasn't any school today and then Liza remembered she was supposed to pick Colby up from school and ran out.

Adam sat in his home office reading Tempo. He called WRCW looking for Liza but was told she wasn't in. Stuart walked in and told his brother that he picked Colby up from school because Liza didn't show up and the school called him. Adam thought this was strange but wasn't worried. He showed Stuart the Tempo magazine and Stuart said he just couldn't believe that Vanessa was Proteus. Adam said JR got into drugs because of Proteus. He also said he couldn't believe Palmer didn't know about Vanessa and said that Courtland Electronics was going to take a hit for this. Adam called Chandler Enterprises and wanted to talk to Doug Mitchell, the Chief Financial Officer but was told that Liza had fired him. Adam was very angry and Stuart tried to calm him down as Liza walked in. She thanked Stuart for picking Colby up from school and then began telling Adam about finding JR at Ryan's. JR walked in and they all began to argue. Adam told JR to tell his story and JR said he had gone to Ryan's to pay back a loan and found Liza there first. Adam turned to Liza and asked why she was at Ryan's instead of at work. JR and Stuart left the room and Adam again asked why Liza was in Ryan's room. She claimed they needed to talk about Gillian's playground but Adam didn't believe her. She got angry and walked out . Adam sat down in astonishment and Stuart returned. He said Liza looked mad and asked Adam if he'd asked her about firing the CFO . Adam said no, and told Stuart not to mention it either.

Erica thought Jack was joking when he said the only way to get rid of Kendall was murder. He told her to stop trying to control everyone and everything around her. She said he tried to buy Kendall out of Pine Valley for Bianca's sake. But Jack looked at Erica and said he did it for her sake. Erica said she'd made a mistake calling Jack and won't ask him for help again. She got up to leave, saying she was going to see Chris at the hospital. Jack said "Even when he doesn't want you?" She told Jack that she loves Chris and that he loves her too, or at least he'll realize it soon. Jack said he talked to Chris during Erica's trial and tried to warn him to put up walls so as not to get sucked in by Erica's tricks. Erica was furious and Jack told her to give Chris the respect he deserves. Erica just stormed off.

Chris sat in his hospital bed, ordering his legs to move. In walked Kendall with his lunch tray. He asked her what she was trying to pull and Kendall said she was there to blackmail him. She said she has an update on Ryan and Chris said he didn't need information on Ryan. Kendall said it was such a farce that they pretend not to care for each other. Chris said it was rich, Kendall giving advice on family matters. Kendall told him that Ryan had said he was a lot like Chris and that he said it like he was proud of it. Chris asked if she was quoting Ryan. She told him that she's tried to connect with Ryan and that they were now living together. Chris got a bit huffy and asked "What's your angle and what do you want from my son?" He wanted to know if they were "shacking up" but Kendall told him they're not interested in each other that way. She then asked what the "real deal" was with him and Erica. Chris said Erica conned him and there's nothing between them. He then asked what Kendall really wanted and she said she had a pocket full of parking tickets he could fix or pay. He just laughed. Then Kendall regaled Chris with a story about a laundry mat caper she and Ryan had. The two of them laughed loudly and Ryan, who had just arrived, listened from outside the door. Erica showed up and Ryan was confused because he thought she was in with Chris making him laugh. Erica opened the door and was furious to see Kendall and Chris having a grand time.

Thursday, March 14, 2002

Adam is worried when he finds out that Liza has fired the CEO of Chandler Enterprises. He tells Barry he also fears she's seeing Ryan again. Adam wants back inside the company so he can gain back some of his control. As Barry leaves, JR comes barging in claiming someone has trashed his room. He thinks Liza was behind it. Liza comes in and admits that she did search JR's room. She believes she has every right to know what goes on in her home. Liza pours herself a cup of tea. While she is sipping the tea, Adam tells her she is being unreasonably harsh with JR. Liza doesn't respond. She stares into her teacup. When Adam becomes concerned, Liza explains that she lost her train of thought. When Adam leaves to take a phone call, Liza turns angrily on JR. She threatens him that she knows exactly what he did and she will prove it.

David informs the hospital board that he is contesting his dismissal. Jake tells him that they have proof that he deceived the hospital into hiring him. It turns out that Vanessa paid for all of the awards that David has won. David is shocked at the accusation, but is forced to believe it. Joe gives David a legal document to sign. It states that David will relinquish all future claims against the hospital and resign. If David doesn't sign it, the board will charge him with fraud and deception.

Anna looks over the document then tells David he should sign it. She tells him the hospital doesn't deserve someone of his caliber and that he would be better off practicing in Europe where they are more open-minded. David begins to sign, then throws the pen across the room in anger. He vows not to let them win. He goes around the room accusing each board member of some indiscretion and calls them all hypocrites. David swears that if he goes down, he'll take them all down with them along with the hospital's reputation.

Ryan hears laughter coming from inside Chris's hospital room. He thinks it must be Erica, but instead finds Kendall entertaining Chris. Erica enters right behind Ryan. She is certain that Kendall is up to no good and orders Kendall to leave town. Ryan stands up for Kendall and says that maybe Erica should be the one to leave.

Kendall and Ryan wait outside while Erica lists all of Kendall's faults to Chris. She tells him about Kendall going after Dimitri, and how Kendall tried to get her hooks into Dimitri's son, Anton. Chris is not impressed. He tells Erica he'll take Kendall's tricks over Erica's sneakiness anyday. Chris says that at least Kendall truly cares about him and Ryan. Erica doesn't buy it. She believes she was right about Frankie, and she'll be proved right about Kendall too.

Erica leaves, then Ryan goes back in to visit with Chris. Chris tells Ryan all about his grandparents and how wonderful they were. He tells a story about how his parents once gave money to a woman who was trying to steal their silver. Ryan is so touched by the story, he has to leave. He always wanted grandparents like that.

Erica runs into Opal at the hospital and moans about how things aren't going well with Chris. Opal thinks Erica could patch things up if she just told Chris the truth about hiring the doctor to take care of him. Kendall overhears their conversation and Erica is forced to beg Kendall not to divulge her secret to Chris.

At the loft, Leo is helping Simone move into her new apartment. She muses that this is the same apartment building where Greenlee lives.

Greenlee is at goes to SOS looking for her father. She had looked for him at the police station and was told he was released on bail. She finds Roger at one of the tables at SOS drinking soda and tells him about her conversation with Mateo. Mateo convinced her that Proteus is ruthless with her employees and Roger was one of her victims. Greenlee now doesn't blame her father about his involvement with Proteus. Roger promises to be the father Greenlee wants.

As Greenlee and Roger are talking with each other, Leo and Simone enter SOS laughing loudly. Leo suddenly sees Greenlee. Leo approaches Greenlee and they begin to snipe at each other, blaming the other for their breakup. Greenlee slaps Leo's face when he insults her about her reconciliation with her father. She quickly apologizes and attempts to justify her behavior. She wants to end her relationship with Leo because it is making her into something she doesn't want to become. Leo asks if she is really done with him. "I have to be," replies Greenlee. Greenlee asks Leo's help to let him go. She then leaves SOS.

Later, arriving at her apartment building, Greenlee enters the elevator just as Leo and Simone are loading more boxes. She is not pleased when Leo tells her that he is moving in with Simone.

Kendall is talking with Erica in the hallway at the hospital. Erica wants Kendall to promise not to tell Chris Stamp the secret she overhead Erica telling Opal. Erica doesn't want Chris to know she is the one who hired the specialist who will help him walk again. Kendal doesn't give any answer to Erica and walks away.

Erica promptly enters Chris' hospital room. Annoyed, Chris tells her to leave but Erica refuses to leave until she tells Chris she had hired Dr. Stannart from Geneva to help him walk again. She waits for a thank you from Chris who changes the subject. What is the real reason you told me about Dr. Stannart, he asks her. Erica tries to rationalize her motives and Chris interrupts her. Chris tries to get Erica to realize that she wants what she wants and does what she wants. He tells her she has misjudged Kendall. She denies he is right and leaves the hospital room.

Kendall visits Myrtle and asks Myrtle if she could help her take care of Chris Stamp without Chris knowing about her involvement. Myrtle refuses, orders Kendall to scream and goes into the kitchen. Bianca secretly hears Kendall and Myrtle talking and when Myrtle leaves the room, she stops Kendall before Kendall reaches the front door. Bianca tells Kendall she thinks it is a good idea for her to take care of Chris while he recovers from his injuries. Bianca believes Kendall's real motive is to get closer to Ryan through his father. Kendall is delighted Bianca seems to be on her side so she asks Bianca to convince Myrtle to rent her a room. Bianca goes to talk to Myrtle as Erica enters the boarding house and sees Kendall. Erica is surprised to see Kendall there and demands to know what she wants. Before Kendall tells Erica anything, Bianca returns from talking with Myrtle and tells Kendall she can move in. Much to Erica's surprise, Kendall defiantly announces to Erica that she and Bianca will be living together.

Agitated and completely out of control, Liza demands the results of her blood tests from the nurse at the nurses' station at Pine Valley Hospital as David walks by. She is told they are completing them as quickly as possible. The results are hand carried from the lab and arrive at the nurse's station. David grabs them and tells Liza there are no drugs in her blood. Liza insisted someone has drugged the tea that she drank. David wants to make amends and asks her to lunch. She refuses and stomps into the elevator.

At the Board meeting, David presents to the Board of Directors written evidence that Joe Martin is not performing his job duties as Chief of Staff because of his heart condition and therefore is no longer capable of running Pine Valley Hospital. Dr. Joe's physician has recommended he cut back on his work schedule so Dr. Joe has been delegating some of his duties to his staff as well as taking sick leave often. Joe agrees he should resign and does so immediately. David boasts he should be Chief of Staff and fully expects the Board to elect him. He tells them he expects a smooth transition. David is asked to wait outside the room while the Board votes. David gloats in the hallway outside the Boardroom and tells Anna he's going to be the next Chief of Staff. Anna leaves. She has some of her own business to take care of.

Anna visits Chris Stamp in his hospital room and reminds him of his promise to get her the position of police chief. Chris, toying with her for a moment, tells her he has already called the Mayor and made the request. Anna is pleased and leaves the room.

As soon as Anna leaves, Chris makes a phone call and tells the person to come see him immediately and Dr. Stannart enters Chris' room. Chris tells him he knows the truth about Erica hiring him. Chris tells Dr. Stannart he needs his help so he can walk out of the hospital.

Anna rejoins David outside the Boardroom. Palmer invites them in as the Board has made their decision. It is announced that with great regret the board has accepted Joe's resignation. They are sure, however, that his successor will do what is in the hospital's best interest. With that, the board introduces the new Chief of Staff -- Dr. Jake Martin.
