Laura Allen joined the cast of All My Children in October 2000 as Laura Kirk English, the adopted daughter of Brooke English. Allen assumed the role from Lauren E Roman, who played the part from 1995 to 1998.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Laura is the daughter of Julie and David Allen. She is the middle child in the family, her other sibling are both girls, named Jenny and Lindsay.
Laura graduated from Wellesley College in 1996 and shortly afterward moved to New York City. In The Big Apple, she found work alongside the police as a member of the "Victims Services" department Iin New York's 24th Precinct.
Laura's first acting gig took place while she was still in high school. At the time, Allen thought that acting would be "an extracurricular activity." Eventually, she returned to acting, landing a role as Maid Marian in a touring version of Robin Hood.
Allen auditioned for the wildly successful series, Sex and the City, but turned down an offer when it was revealed that she'd have to go topless. Allen did get a part in The $treet, but the series was short-lived.
Before landing her role on All My Children, Allen auditioned for the role of Michelle Bauer on Guiding Light. Ironically, Allen's co-star, Rebecca Budig (Greenlee) had previously played the same role. Also on the soap front, Allen also auditioned for the role of Melanie MacIver on One Life to Live.
Allen's birthday is March 21st. Though not fluent, she does have extensive knowledge of Japanese.
