Days of our Lives' Camila Banus (Gabi Hernandez) has some huge news to share: she had landed a role on the FOX musical series Star.
The actress took to Instagram to announce that she has landed the role of Nina Ferrera on the primetime series, opposite actor William Levy.
"Well the news is out!" the actress enthused. "So excited to a part of STAR ON FOX season 3!! Can't wait for everyone to meet NINA FERRERA and who better to be my other half but @willevy Watch out everyone the FERRERA'S are here to stay!"
Levy's character, Mateo Ferrera, is described as a driven media mogul who can charm the devil into attending church. He is rich, successful, and smooth as silk, as is his wife/equal, Nina (Banus).
Levy has been cast as a series regular for the upcoming season three, but there's no word yet on how often Banus will appear on the FOX series. That means her status at DAYS is unclear.
Created by Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy, Star centers on three young singers in Atlanta, Georgia, who work their way through the musical industry on the road to success. Some of the cast includes Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, Stephen Dorff, Jude Demorest, Amiyah Scott, Ryan Destiny, Brittany O'Grady, Quincy Brown, Luke James, Miss Lawrence, and Michael Michele.
Soap fans may be interested to know that season one of Star was executive produced by former The Young and the Restless EP/head writer Charles Pratt Jr., who was later replaced by Karin Gist.
Banus joined DAYS in 2010 and played the role until 2014. She left the NBC soap opera to pursue other roles but returned as Gabi in September 2015. The actress' contract with the series is rumored to be over in April of 2019, which has a lot of fans worried about her future in daytime -- especially now that she has landed primetime role.
A rep for DAYS has yet to comment on whether or not Banus' new role on Star will affect her status in Salem.
