northrop Wayne Alan Northrop

Salem Presence

Alex North (August 1st, 2005 to Present)
Roman Brady (1981-1984; 1991-1994)

At a Glance

Northrop had a stroke of luck and his first "big break" when he was given the chance to work with the highly respected and, at that time, newly-formed Los Angeles Actors Theatre, headed by Ralph Waite of "The Waltons" fame. He was asked to replace an actor in the young company's second production, Arnold Wesker's "The Kitchen." The play brought him to the attention of casting people and others in the industry. Good reviews also brought him his first agent, a chance to appear in the company's next production, and his first role in TV, a small part in an episode of "Police Story." Other roles followed in such TV shows as "The Waltons," "Baretta," "Eight is Enough," "Beggerman, Thief," "The Young Riders" and "Testimony of Two men."

Northrop soon landed the role of Michael, Blake Carrington's mysterious chauffeur on "Dynasty." After a year on "Dynasty," Northrop became good guy cop, Roman Brady on "Days." After three years he left the show but later returned to reprise his role.

Among Northrop's other TV credits; recent a guest stint on "Cold Case," "The Haunting of Lisa" with Cheryl Ladd, "The Deidre Hall Story," the title role of an accused wife murderer on NBC's dramatic special, "You are the Jury: The State of Arizona v. Dr. Evan Blake" and the starring role of U.S. Olympic Ski Team coach Johnny Lider on the CBS movie, "Guts and Glory: The Bill Johnson Story."

Northrop is married to actress Lynn Herring, who portrayed Lucy Coe on "General Hospital" and "Port Charles." The Northrops are active supporters of the Special Olympics program and both are staunchly committed to many wildlife and environmental causes. They have two sons, Hank and Grady Lee. The family lives the rustic life in the hills outside of Los Angeles. Northrop's birthday is April 12.
