Salem Presence

Count Antony DiMera (1981-1996; 1993-1996; June 21st, 2002 to present)
Andre DiMera (1983-1984)

At a Glance

Born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Thaao Penghlis is one of four children whose parents immigrated to Sydney from Greece. He speaks both English and Greek.

While studying art history and fashion in New York City he was encouraged to pursue a career in drama by acting coach and theatre director, Milton Katselas. His New York stage debut was in the Off-Broadway production of "Jockeys."

Penghlis first appeared to daytime audiences in 1981 when he appeared on General Hospital, followed by a stint on Santa Barbara from 1992-1993. He may be best know to fans, however, as Days of our Lives' Count Antony DiMera. He portrayed Anthony -- and his twin, Andre - from 1981 to 1995. In 2002, Tony was "brought back from the dead," offering Penghlis the opportunity to replay the role of one of Salem's great villains.

In addition to his return to Days, Penghlis also planned to star in one-man show about the life of Greek Revolutionary, Alexander Panagoulis.

Penghlis' diverse world travels have not only taken him across the Sinai Desert and up Mt. Sinai, but aided in pursuing his interest in archaeology as well as providing info for a recent screenplay.
