Brief Character History
Mike Horton was born into controversy. He was the result of a rape, where his father Bill, in a drunken stupor, raped his mother, Laura. Laura was married to his uncle Mickey, who thought he was Mike's father. Mickey was in fact sterile. It wasn't until Mike was well into his teen years that he found out Bill was his biological father. Although having a hard time dealing with it, he accepted Laura and Bill's pairing and welcomed his sister Jennifer Rose into his life when she was born.
In his early years, Mike got involved with Trish Clayton, but was afraid he couldn't make love to her. She found solace in his second cousin David Banning and wound up pregnant with their son Scotty. After getting his heart broken, he married Margo Anderman after she revealed she had leukemia. He took the loss of his wife hard, and because of her, pursued medicine.
After that, Mike got involved with new chief-of-staff at University Hospital, Robin Jacobs. She was Jewish, he was Catholic, and neither were willing to convert. Although they loved each other, Robin married Mitch Kaufman, also Jewish. She wound up pregnant, but didn't know who was the father of her unborn child. Jeremy, as the child was called, ended up being Mike's. He moved to Israel after his romance with April Ramirez fizzled.
Mike returned to Salem brokenhearted after a woman in Israel tricked him into running weapons. For a long time, he dedicated his whole life to his work, save a little blackmail from Stefano DiMera, who was really behind the whole weapons mess. He was a prosperous doctor, and for a while, it seemed, the only doctor in Salem that worked. Carrie Brady was having trouble with her relationship with Austin Reed, who was married to her half sister Sami. He soon fell in love with her, and supported her throughout her troubles. Carrie and Austin wed, despite the fact that he tried his best to gently persuade Carrie against it.
He eventually revealed his feelings for her, but not before they kissed for the first time on July 4, 1998. She returned the feelings. Mike made a run for the Chief of Staff job at University Hospital. He ran against Craig Wesley, and won. Craig wants that job so badly that he's willing to manipulate any situation to get it. Craig, and his wife Nancy, set up an embarrassing situation where it looked like Mike had had a tryst with a complete stranger the night of his Chief of Staff party. They have pushed Nurse Ali McIntyre, with whom Mike had a brief relationship, to the edge, she is suing for sexual harassment.
Carrie and Mike are drove around the US, trying their best to keep their hands off each other. Even though Carrie admits she loves Mike, she wants to work on her marriage with Austin. Austin thinks Mike and Carrie are having an affair, so he's not contacting her. They continue to fight their feelings, but Mike is slowly making Carrie choose between her and Austin. Mike and Carrie ended up in Las Vegas where they eventually gave into their feelings and made love, on a flying bed no less.
Austin found them together, decked Mike and ditched Carrie. Carrie was left alone as Mike had to gear up to fight Ali's lawsuit and Austin continued to support Sami. Carrie has found out that Mike did sleep with Ali and now has her doubts about Mike's innocence. Austin was interested in marriage counseling, but ultimately Mike and Carrie ended up together. They left for Israel where they lived for a few years but when it didn't work out, Mike stayed in Israel with Jeremy and Carrie returned to Los Angeles.
