General Hospital to use ''Flashback Fridays'' to extend run of new episodes

With production of General Hospital suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, ABC has found a creative way to extend the number of new episodes that have yet to air. GH will begin replaying past episodes every Friday.

Starting this Friday, April 3, the ABC soap will start a special "Flashback Fridays" feature that will rebroadcast repeat episodes of the series. First up is a re-airing of the Tuesday, April 3, 2019, episode that celebrated the show's 56th anniversary.

Each throwback episode will feature an introduction from a General Hospital star.

It is unclear how far back the so-called flashback episodes will go. Fans have been clamoring for truly classic episodes, but in recent years, ABC has opted to air more recent episodes to help frame current storylines.

The repeat episodes will continue to air for eight weeks, ending on May 22, 2020. That will buy the soap nearly two additional weeks to hopefully return to a regular production model.

General Hospital halted production on Monday, March 16, and the ABC soap is slated to remain dark until Friday, April 10. It is unclear at this time if the show will be able to resume filming at that time.

CBS is also planning to rebroadcast classic episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless, though the network has yet to release a statement detailing its plans.
