Brief Character History

Trey Mitchell arrived in Port Charles as the producer of Kristina Davis-Corinthos' reality show, Mob Princess. Trey, a film graduate student at Yale, had met Kristina in a coffee shop near Yale University. Kristina had been reeling from the discovery that her father, mobster Sonny Corinthos had pulled some strings to get Kristina into Yale. Kristina had felt humiliated when her classmates had ridiculed her about her father and what he had done. Trey and Kristina devised a way for Kristina to punish Sonny and Alexis for interfering in her life by developing a reality show called Mob Princess, which would showcase Kristina's life as the daughter of a mob boss. Kristina threatened to walk out of Sonny and Alexis' lives if they didn't agree to be a part of her reality show.

Trey needed a place to stay, so he answered Maxie Jones's ad for a roommate, at the same time that Starr Manning had. Maxie decided to move out, so she turned the apartment over to Trey and Starr. Trey and Starr reluctantly agreed to share expenses, even though they didn't get along. Kristina, who wanted more than friendship from Trey, was not pleased with Trey's new living arrangements. Kristina warned Michael, who was attracted to Starr, that Trey's continued attempts to anger Starr was Trey's way of flirting with Starr. Kristina decided to let Trey know that she wanted more than friendship by kissing him, but Trey insisted that they keep their relationship professional, because Kristina was the star of his show.

Trey didn't make friends in Port Charles, especially with Kate Howard, who accused Trey of exploiting Kristina's resentment towards Sonny for profit. Trey was unaware, that Kate, who suffered from dissociative identity disorder, had recently recovered the memory of being raped as a teenager by a man named Joe Scully Jr. Traumatized, pregnant and alone, Kate mind had fractured. Her alter personality took refuge in a boarding house until she gave birth to a baby boy, which she abandoned in a dresser drawer. Sonny Corinthos, who in love with Kate, ordered mob enforcer Jason Morgan to hunt Joe Scully Jr. down and deliver Joe to Sonny's warehouse. Meanwhile, Trey became concerned when he was unable to reach is father, Joe Scully Jr.

Trey occasionally made contact with the person that financed Mob Princess and Kristina overheard a conversation and realized that Trey's father was the backer. Trey explained that his father had raised him after his mother had left both of them when he was an infant. He did not tell Kristina that his father was Joe Scully, Jr., a man from Sonny's past.

Despite Kristina's wishes, Trey confronted Kate again and asked her to participate in the show but she refused. Kate accused Trey of exploiting Kristina's relationship with her father and referred to him as a cheap hustler instead of the creative visionary he claimed to be. Trey walked away after he reminded Kate that she was responsible for the deaths of two innocent people.

Eventually Trey's father made contact with him from inside a jail in Atlantic City. Joe Jr. was being held there on murder charges and Trey rushed to visit him. Trey worried about his father but Joe Jr. insisted that there was no need to worry because he was innocent and that Sonny Corinthos had actually committed the crime. Trey questioned how his father knew Sonny and Joe Jr. went on to explain that his father, Joe Scully, Sr., had been involved in organized crime. Joe Jr. told Trey that he had opted out of the family business but Sonny chose to work in the Scully organization. Joe Jr. claimed that Sonny had committed a murder in Atlantic City several years before and pinned it on him. In addition he announced that Sonny had killed Joe Sr. and taken the money and power.

Trey was overwhelmed by the information his father had shared but he vowed to stand by his father. He also promised to keep his true identity a secret from Sonny. Trey asked his father if it would be safest for him to end the reality show but Joe Jr. advised that it would be best for Trey not to attract any suspicion, which would include cancelling the show.

As Reality Princess moved forward Trey's thoughts remained on his father's legal troubles and he made another trip to visit him. This time Joe Jr. revealed that his legal and financial problems were not disappearing quite the way he had anticipated and he suggested a way that Trey could help. He asked Trey to retrieve what Sonny had taken from the Scully family by marrying Kristina.

The suggestion initially appalled Trey and he vowed to find another way to help his father until Joe Jr. convinced him that a marriage to Kristina was the only way. Trey returned to Port Charles and canceled the reality show in exchange for a relationship with Kristina. She was flattered that Trey chose to scrap the show and they started to date.

Soon after Trey and Kristina began dating Trey's father pushed him to marry her immediately. Trey stalled and begged his father to find a different solution to his problems but Joe Jr. insisted that a marriage to Kristina was the only way. While Trey struggled with his conscience he confided in Starr. She advised him to be truthful with Kristina. He took some of her advice and approached Kristina with his father's legal troubles to her. He alleged that the stopped production of the show added to his father's problems but it could be resolved if a few more episodes were taped with a wedding as the finale.

Kristina agreed to help Trey's father, unaware of his connection to Sonny. She consented to marry him on camera and Trey explained that they needed to marry immediately. Kristina was unsure of the short timetable but Trey convinced her to travel to Las Vegas with him and they eloped. After the ceremony Michael and Starr arrived and Starr recounted what Trey had told her about his family's past with Sonny. Trey insisted that he had lied to Starr to stir up drama for the show and Kristina believed him.

As Trey and Kristina prepared to return to Port Charles, Trey made contact with his father and shared his newly married status. Trey informed his father that Kristina planned to file for an annulment immediately and Joe Jr. reminded him that he needed to stop the annulment in order to take back what Sonny had stolen from them. Trey asked his father to forget his grudge against Sonny and reminded him that he did not care about the money and power Sonny possessed. Joe Jr. reminded Trey that he needed to follow the plan and encouraged his son to visit Sonny and convince him that he loved Kristina and their marriage was not a mistake.

Trey went to see Sonny as his father had advised but found Sonny's fiancée Kate instead of Kristina's father. Kate knew about Trey's marriage and she accused him of manipulating Kristina. While the two spoke, Kate recognized the pendant Trey wore around his neck which was engraved with his initials. She reacted strangely to the pendant and demanded that Trey admit that Joe Scully, Jr. was his father. Trey did eventually concede that she was correct in naming Joe Jr. as his father and she followed up with a demand to know who Trey's mother was. He revealed that he did not know since she had left him when he was a baby.

Kate's inquisition was not finished until she learned Trey's age. Then she stunned Trey with the announcement that she was his mother and tried to hug him. Trey believed that Kate was trying to manipulate him in some way and he pushed her away. Afterwards, Kate's demeanor changed and she informed Trey that he was a child of rape and she had planned to abort her pregnancy. She continued to taunt him and claimed that the only reason he had been born was because a priest had encouraged her not to end the pregnancy.

Trey was in shock over everything that Kate had revealed and he confronted his father. Joe Jr. tried to convince him that Kate was lying but Trey remained unconvinced. As Trey wondered which story was real, he wished he had someone he could confide in. Kristina showed up shortly after and Trey contemplated telling her the truth. Instead, Trey kept his family secrets but allowed Kristina to comfort him and they consummated their marriage.

Although Trey followed his father's orders and married Kristina, his distrust in his father grew and Trey told his wife what he knew about his father's past with Sonny. He also shared with Kristina that Kate was his mother. Kristina was furious with Trey for lying to her and the couple argued. Kristina walked out after the argument and Trey was concerned when he was unable to locate her. Trey found her being held by gunpoint by his father and he revealed that his plan to murder Kristina and allow Trey to inherit her assets. Trey refused to allow his father to harm her and he stepped between the gun his father held and Kristina. The men fought over the gun and a shot was accidently fired into Joe Jr.'s shoulder.

Joe Jr. took off and went into hiding afterwards and Trey cared for his wife. He accepted her decision to seek an annulment but he asked her to date him. Trey sided against his father once again when Joe Jr. emerged and revealed that he was only following the instructions he was given by a very powerful man. Trey refused to be a part of Joe Jr.'s plan in any way and shared any information he had with the police after his father took off.

Kristina was moved by Trey's actions which showed he cared deeply for her but felt betrayed and filed for an annulment. Things became more complicated between Trey and Kristina after Joe Jr. was shot and used his last breath to inform Trey that Sonny had shot him. Trey confronted Sonny over Joe Jr.'s death but Sonny maintained that he was innocent and asked Trey for a favor. He asked Trey to commit his mother for psychiatric treatment. Despite his feelings for Sonny, Trey agreed and petitioned the court but his request was denied.
