Brief Character History
Former school teacher Rae Rooney relocated to Springfield on November 17, 1989 and although her stay in Springfield was a short one, it was a very memorable one. Rae was a college roommate and friend of singer, Chelsea Reardon, who specifically said she relocated to Springfield because Chelsea wanted her help in preparing to soon marry local WSPR TV talk show host, Johnny Bauer. Chelsea wanted Rae to be her matron of honor. But for some, at first, unknown reason, Rae had left her chosen profession of teaching in relocating to Springfield. Also Chelsea decided to move in with Rae briefly, because of the old fashioned values her mother, Bea Reardon had installed in her of perhaps not living with a man until they were closer to being married (and also she felt crowded in her sister, Maureen Reardon Bauer's home.)
While Chelsea and Rae went about planning Chelsea's wedding, Johnny was becoming famous at the local television station, WSPR. Johnny was a talk show host of the show, "One on One" and had been hired by station manager and part owner, Holly Norris Lindsey. Johnny had suggested to Holly that Chelsea and he should sing on "One on One," but Holly was hesitant. Holly had two reasons for her objections (one personal and one having to do with demographics): 1. The personal reasons: When Holly returned to Springfield, after fifteen years away from town, in early 1989 she had gotten re-involved with her former husband, Dr. Ed Bauer. Ed was not only Johnny's cousin, but also was married to Chelsea's older sister, Maureen. Further, when Ed and Holly broke up again during the summer of 1989, one of the men she became attracted to and sort of flirted with was none other than Johnny and Johnny didn't necessarily discourage the flirtation; although he made it quite clear to Holly he was committed to Chelsea. Reason #1 was that Holly was slightly jealous of Chelsea. 2: The demographic reasons: Holly had statistics to show that putting singing on a talk show of the caliber she was trying to achieve with Johnny's show, didn't always improve ratings, and sometimes hurt them and Holly had to remember that she owed an obligation not to hurt WSPR's financial status to the other part owners, businessman Henry Chamberlain and attorney Ross Marler. The surprise would come though when a most unlikely person convinced Holly to give Chelsea a chance. Holly's other ex-husband in town, the nefarious Roger Thorpe (who also considered Maureen Bauer a friend of his) had caught Chelsea singing one evening at a Springfield bar named, "Heartbreakers" and Roger was immediately impressed with Chelsea's vocals. And after Maureen briefly expressed to Roger how much she wanted her younger sister to pursue her singing career, Roger the next time he spoke to Holly and Holly expressed her doubts about letting Chelsea and Johnny sing on "One on One," Roger asked Holly, "Hey, why not?" So after some reevaluating Holly allowed for a one time only on "One on One" for Chelsea and Johnny to sing on the show.
Around this same time another person who seemed to have no ties to Johnny and Chelsea and only tenuous ties to the Bauers (through dating Dr. Rick Bauer, Ed's son from another previous marriage) and to Roger Thorpe from a crime she was involved with in early September 1989, aspiring actress Dana Jones, entered the lives of Johnny and Chelsea and not in the best of ways. Holly had hired Dana, after her former stepson, Rick, asked her to because of Dana's desire to break into television. Holly reluctantly agreed to hire Dana, even though she knew of Dana's spotty past as a teenage runaway and drug dealer/user. Holly hired Dana as an intern in WSPR's control booth. Dana would be on hand in the control booth for the premiere of Johnny and Chelsea's duet on "One on One." On December 13, 1989, Johnny and Chelsea sang a song together that had appeal for Chelsea due to her friendship with Rae Rooney. Johnny and Chelsea sang the song,! "Friendship" from the Broadway musical, "Anything Goes." Holly was shocked and surprised when Johnny and Chelsea were a huge success in phone calls to the station (and in the ratings), except for one particular caller. Dana in the control booth would field a caller, with a disguised voice, after the duet was finished that had in the background the following lines of the song, "Friendship", playing: "When other friendships are forgot, ours will still be hot." Then the mysterious caller told Johnny that they were a huge fan and Johnny belonged to them, but they didn't want Chelsea to perform again or "else." Johnny, Chelsea, Dana and Holly didn't know what to make of this caller and the phrase or "else", but immediately it was suspected that Johnny Bauer had an "obsessed fan."
Unfortunately the obsessed fan continued to stalk both Johnny and Chelsea with more threatening phone calls, with the song "Friendship" playing in the background every time. Johnny asked Dana's boyfriend, policeman in training, Frank Cooper, to investigate but the fan continued to stay one step ahead of him. And the obsessed fan got more daring and personal. On December 18, 1989, unbeknownst to Chelsea and Johnny, while Chelsea visited Johnny's apartment to put up his Christmas tree and lights and the obsessed fan stood outside watching them through the window. In the meantime, Dana became equally impressed with Chelsea (and not just Johnny) and got Holly to allow Chelsea to be on "One on One" more often. Dana even told Chelsea that she wished to emulate her in her pursuit of beina an actress. That time Chelsea was genuinely grateful to hear that the younger woman chose Chelse as a role model, of course this gratefulness! , unfortunately for Dana, wouldn't last with Chelsea. Frank Cooper suggested to Johnny and Holly that perhaps there might be away to entrap the obsessed fan during one of the tapings of "One on One" by having them call in while the show was on and put a tracer on the phone at WSPR. Holly and Ross reluctantly agreed to do this, but only once. That day was on December 28, 1989. Johnny had on as his guest, Neil Everest, the architect of the Spaulding Enterprises project known at that time as Blakewood Towers. Johnny and Holly had suspicions that Neil might be the mysterious person buying up property on Fifth Street where the Cooper diner was located and might be doing it for rather suspicious ends. So Johnny and Holly agreed to have Johnny confront Neil, rather harshly on the air and see if that might get the obsessed fan to call in, because that day it would turn out that Chelsea who normally might appear near the end of the program to sing, did not, because she was having problems with her thro at that day. Unfortunately it didn't and unfortunately it gained both Johnny and Holly the wrath of Neil, instead. (It would turn out that the mystery person buying up property on 5th Street was Holly's ex-, Roger Thorpe.) Johnny though became suspicious that now the obsessed fan was really a stalker wishing to do Chelsea ill. Johnny would be proven right, even if Frank Cooper disagreed with him. Johnny even tried one more time on December 31, 1989 to goad the caller to come after him, but to no avail (again Chelsea did not appear on this episode of "One on One.")
There were two ways Johnny figured out that the obsessed fan was really a stalker after Chelsea (of course, unfortunately before this at least three other people were accused of being the fan: Holly Norris Lindsey, Roger Thorpe and Frank's mother, Nadine Corley Cooper.) On New Year's Eve, 1989, Johnny and Chelsea came to Johnny's apartment and found in his bedroom (that included some itmes and clothes Chelsea had left there) that her items were ransacked through. Four days later, on January 3, 1990, with Chelsea singing "Friendship", Chelsea almost was killed when a piece of lighting equipment nearly fell on top of her. Almost everyone at the station (Holly and Ross amongst them) assumed it was an accident: but near the end of the show the "obsessed fan" called with a warning to Chelsea that this wasn't the worse that was about to befall Chelsea. Johnny now knew that Chelsea was being stalked, by coincidence this w! as the same day that Frank and Dana first made love in his garage apartment and Dana was not at the station during the incident.
Another incident occurred at WSPR underground garage on January 10, 1990, when the "fan" tried to run into Chelsea with a car and then later left another phone call at the station. Chelsea who up to this point refused to believe that she had a stalker, now believed Johnny's claim. During all of this, Dana Jones' former boyfriend, Dr. Rick Bauer and Rae Rooney became an item (later to be engaged.) On January 18, 1990, Rick and Rae were visiting Frank, while Dana was at WSPR's control booth. During the visit, and unidentified gloved hand was seen planting Chelsea's engagement ring that had been lifted during the ransacking of Johnny's apartment and her belongings, in Dana's clothes. For a brief amount of time during the visit, Rae had interrupted herself to go to the bathroom to "powder her nose." A day later on January 19, 1990, while Frank and Dana were visiting Frank's mother, Nadine at her modest apartment two things happened that seemed to point to Dana being Chelsea's stalker. The first thing was that Chelsea's engagement ring fell out of Dana's clothes. (Although Nadine made an issue out of it, Frank told Dana he didn't think that it was a big deal, which fueled Nadine's disgust at this coupling.) Then a horrified Nadine secretly spied Dana imitating Chelsea. (Later in mid-February 1990, Nadine would tell Frank what she saw and Frank was disconcerted.) The next week on January 26, 1990, after Johnny left Chelsea at a park gazebo, Chelsea started suddenly hearing the song, "Friendship" (it was coming from a hidden boom box radio/tape player.) The next thing Chelsea knew a pair of hands with the same gloves as the person who planted Chelsea 's engagement ring in Dana's clothes, attacked Chelsea with a sharp letter opener! Chelsea was unnerved, even though Johnny was able to stop the stalker, even injuring the stalker's hand slightly. (The boom box disappeared.) Later t! he same day, a gloved hand was seen throwing both the boom box an d the letter opener from the Springfield river bridge. Chelsea then asked Rae if she could borrow her gun, then agreed to move in with Johnny. Johnny was furious during the first few days of February when he found the weapon and promptly returned it to Rae. (That same day, Rae was seen taking on and off a bandage on one of her hands with a huge bloody gash on it. When Rick saw it he asked Rae how she got it and whether she wanted some medical attention, Rae demurely said "no.")
Johnny and Chelsea although concerned, proceeded with their plans for a Valentine's Day wedding. Rae again was to be Chelsea's matron of honor and Rick was to be Johnny's best man. The wedding was to take place at Ed and Maureen's house and would be rather small intimate gathering of a very few people, the wedding party and Ed, Maureen and Ed and Maureen's daughter, Michelle. Holly did drop by early in the day and left a wedding present, but then quickly left. The only three major interruptions came first when Frank and Dana briefly dropped by (and then left), so Frank could see that Chelsea was safe from harm. (Of course everyone spied Dana's every move {specifically around the food} very suspiciously, except for Frank.) The second major interruption was when Chelsea found an unmarked wedding present. When Chelsea opened it, it turned out to be a music box that played the song, "Friendship" and it spooked Chelsea at first, until Rae admitted it was from her. Then Chelsea thought it was a cute and wonderful present from her best friend. The third major interruption was when a videotape arrived without much postage on it and no details of an address as to who sent it, which spooked Chelsea. Chelsea tried to remain calm, but joked to Rae, Rick and Maureen that it was from the stalker (Maureen suspected otherwise.) As it would turn out, the unmarked videotape was actually a videotape from her and Maureen's mother, Bea, and their brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Annabelle wishing Chelsea and Johnny well wishes on their wedding day. After the wonderful video, Chelsea then ate some food and promptly kneeled over in pain! Rick, Ed and Johnny quickly took her to Cedars, where sure enough Rick found out that Chelsea had been poisoned (Chelsea tried to at first to chalk the stomach pain to wedding day jitters and lack of eat! ing any food before Johnny and Frank agreed that Chelsea was to b e put under police protection (which really did not sit well with her.) The next day, on February 15, 1990, Chelsea would be grateful for the protection when the stalker called and not only threatened Chelsea's life, but also Michelle Bauer's! Then the stalker called WSPR during "One on One" and insisted that Johnny's show be replaced permanently with Nadine Cooper's show, "The Love Bug." Johnny refused to be intimated though and addressed the fan directly challenging them to show themselves at the station, of course the stalker refused! Later Rae Rooney told Chelsea and Nadine, at Cedars that she suspected that Dana Jones was the stalker and Nadine agreed. (By the way, Rae was seen briefly making two mysterious phone calls in the halls of Cedars.)
The next week, Johnny, still assuming that the stalker was really an obsessed fan, decided that it might be a good idea for them to break up. Johnny was not happy and neither was Chelsea. But, Johnny was also even more concerned, because he knew now that Chelsea was the intended victim of the stalker. Chelsea was released from Cedars, on February 20, 1990 and with not being with Johnny anymore went and lived with Rae. On February 21, 1990, Chelsea told Frank, at the Diner, that she was convinced that Dana was the stalker and was till after Johnny; but Frank told Chelsea that he was equally convinced that Rae was the stalker; which Chelsea totally and vehemently disagreed with. But, very soon after their conversation, Frank would have a jolt that perhaps Chelsea and his mother were right about Dana. Frank went to see Johnny at his apartment and found the door wide open (Johnny usually kept his door locked, but had todl s! ome people including Frank where to find the key and at this point Frank knew that Johnny was reading the news on WSPR.) Frank went in and to his shock saw Dana going through Johnny's stuff! Dana tried to tell a now suspicious Frank and Johnny, who showed up a short time later, that he suspicion that the stalker was Johnny’s former girlfriend who was in a sanitarium in Switzerland being treated for a mental illness, Roxie Shayne, as Johnny's "obsessed fan." Of course Frank and Johnny were now even more suspicious of Dana and Dana was upset that Frank was now eyeing her as the stalker and starting to believe Nadine's continuing nasty comments about her. On February 23, 1990, Dana told Frank they were over and moved out of his garage apartment. She told him further she hated that Frank was so distrustful of her!
Dana continued to be Frank, Chelsea and Johnny's (and everyone else in town's) main suspect in the stalking, throughout the rest of February and unfortunately when she left Frank's apartment, no one could find her. (Even Holly had to reluctantly agree that the young lady, Dana Jones, that had shown such promise, as a WSPR control booth intern, looked very guilty of the crime. Matters weren't helped any when Dana called Holly and told her she was quitting and wanted to pick up her last paycheck on March 1, 1990. Holly tried to talk Dana into both staying in town and at the station, but Dana refused saying she was probably returning to her parents' house in Clayton, despite the animosity that existed between them when she started seeing, Bruce Daly. Dana then called Chelsea and asked to set up a meeting, because she told Chelsea she wanted to say she didn't do the stalking and thought she could prove it, but also wanted to say goodbye to! the older woman that she admired. Chelsea reluctantly agreed when Frank and Johnny couldn't be found to consult with whether the meeting with Dana was a bright idea. Dana set up the meeting in the garage parking lot of WSPR. While Chelsea was waiting some gloved hands (yes, wearing the same gloves that had put Chelsea's engagement ring in Dana's belongings and also the same gloves that had tried to kill Chelsea in the gazebo; unfortunately on the car radio came the song, "Friendship" playing at that exact moment), came from behind the back seat of Chelsea's car and took one of Chelsea's scarves and started choking Chelsea with it. Chelsea struggled with her attacker and was able to give the attacker a quick kneed with her hand to the abdomen and the stalker let go and when Holly, Nadine and Frank started approaching the car, the stalker got out and quickly left. Holly, Nadine and Frank found an unconscious Chelsea and took her to Cedars, and when Rick saw her, even more suspicions were raised about Dana -- when she then showed up at the garage apartment. Luckily, Holly and Nadine found Chelsea's scarf and it was taken to the police lab for analysis. (By the time, Frank had passed the police academy exams and was an officer in training.) Sure enough for everyone, Dana's fingerprints were all over Chelsea's scarf. (Although a few days later, Chelsea admitted that she had lent her scarf to Dana, earlier.) Dana was arrested on March 2, 1990 as the stalker. As Dana was jailed by Frank, Dana refused to speak to Frank. Johnny thinking that the stalking would come to a halt with Dana in jail, proposed to Chelsea again and Chelsea accepted and they started planning a new wedding.
A couple of days later, on March 8, 1990, an unknown person posted Dana's bail. Dana assumed it was Holly, but Holly denied this. Dana then assumed the perhaps it was Frank, but she didn't care. With all eyes on her as the stalker and seeming like their was no future in Springfield, she decided she'd go to WSPR to her items and leave town for good. Johnny and Chelsea were frightened to say the least when Dana suddenly showed up at the halls of WSPR. Holly then told Dana that she still wanted Dana to stay as a control booth operator intern for a couple of more days. When Dana asked why, Holly stated that she, Ross, Frank and Vanessa Chamberlain Lewis all suspected that it was Roger Thorpe who had done four new criminal deeds. Holly and Vanessa wanted to confront Roger at WSPR, during the evening news hosted by Johnny and thought that Dana would be perfect in the control booth for the video segments Ho! lly had in mind for the confrontation with Roger. Dana reluctantly agreed to man the control booth on March 15, 1990 during the planned on-air confrontation with Roger. But Dana told Holly in no uncertain terms that would be her final day in Springfield and working at WSPR. Dana still planned to return to her parents in Clayton.
On March 15, 1990, while Holly and Vanessa tried to confront Roger about his new crimes on air at WSPR, with Roger vehemently denying everything and then Nadine confronted Vanessa that she was no good for her husband, Billy Lewis; Dana was getting ready to man the control booth, when surprisingly both Johnny and Chelsea showed up. Dana kept her distance from them, as Johnny went about reading the news, that would show how criminal Roger Thorpe really was. As Dana went to the control booth she noticed that the door was open. Holly would normally lock the control booth door, closed. Dana proceeded cautiously and when she looked in side there was a mysterious figure in a trench coat working the controls. And the mysterious person was about to have a hot spotlight pointed on Chelsea that was about to fall right on top of Chelsea! Dana went after both the mysterious trench oat figure (who Dana noticed was wearing the same gloves that Chelsea described that her stalker had worn) and the control booth, hoping to have this confrontation broadcast live on-air at WSPR. Dana was in for a big shock, when the slightly taller mysterious trench coat figure knocked her away from the control booth, with Dana feeling slightly the brunt of being thrown onto the floor of the control booth. Then Dana would get a further shock when the mysterious figure turned around and their face was revealed. The mysterious figure was none other than, Rae Rooney! Rae, the supposedly good friend of Chelsea and Rick Bauer's fiancee. Dana finally figured out that for some reason known only to Rae, that Rae was Chelsea's stalker. Dana quickly went after the control booth again to get Rae's voice broadcast live on-air, while at the same time vocally confronting Rae. Rae warned Dana to stay out of it. But Dana refused and told Rae she was tired of being a victim of Rae's stalking, since Dana was now being falsely accused of the crime. Rae then got furious when Dana was able to reach around Rae and turn on the sound in the control booth to go out on-air and throughout the rest of the station's building. Rae equally as quickly pulled out a gun from her trench coat. Rae and Dana started to struggle, again. Suddenly the verbal fighting between Nadine and Vanessa and the verbal fighting between Holly and Roger came to an abrupt halt (as well as Johnny’s newscast), when the gunshot sounded from the control booth! Rae had shot at and critically injured, Dana! Rae quickly left the control booth and WSPR and sped away. Frank found the critically injured Dana in the control booth. Dana was able to tell Frank softly that she had been shot by the real stalker of Chelsea's. Frank told her in the ambulance to Cedars not to talk and save her strength. Rick Bauer operated on Dana and removed the bullet. Dana was placed in intensive care and was in a coma; Rick told Holly, Frank, Johnny and Chelsea that Dana had lost a lot of blood and didn't look good for her survival. A devastated Frank begged Dana for her forgiveness in accusing her of being the stalker. And Nadine emotional over seeing her son, begged Frank's forgiveness for all the horrible words that she had said about Dana (Frank did forgive her.) Frank also vowed to an unconscious Dana that he'd find the true culprit, no matter what!
Frank posted a policeman outside of Dana's hospital room in intensive care. Frank told the policeman to guard Dana 24 hours a day. He also suggested strongly that the police guard was not to leave her door for anything! Then on March 25, 1990, Frank caught Rae in his apartment going through Dana's items at his garage apartment (Frank had taken Dana's items to his apartment after the shooting on the 15th) Rae was able to convince Frank that she was only there to fetch some of Dana's favorite things and take them to Dana's room at Cedars. Rae went further and told Frank, that she thought it might be nice for Dana to have some familiarity surrounding her when she awoke from her coma. Reluctantly, Frank bought Rae's story of being concerned about Dana, as Rae left the apartment with a huge smile on her face. Then Rae went to Dana's hospital room and was stopped by the police guard. Rae s! howed the policeman that she had Dana's items and was able to plead, successfully, what she had just pleaded to Frank that she was there to leave some familiar items for Dana. Rae also was able to get the police guard to leave his post, but flirted with him to promise, not to tell Frank that she had done so. After the police guard left, Rae entered Dana's intensive care room and started towards the machines helping Dana breathe. Rae thought she'd kill the one person who could identify her as the stalker by "pulling the plug." But Rae wouldn't have to. Dana suddenly opened her eyes and saw Rae standing right next to her bed! Dana struggled, but could barely move and remained on her back. Rae just smiled and told Dana that she knew that Dana wouldn't be mean and tell anyone that she was Chelsea's stalker. Dana then went into a convulsive shock and had a heart attack! Rae left and ran away, shortly thereafter responding to Dana's call button, Rick, Lillian Raines and then Frank arrived to Dana's hospital room. Rick, Lillian and Frank were to find out that they were too late. Dana Jones was dead!
On March 29, 1990, Cedars decided to hold a memorial for Dana Jones. Since it was now known by Frank and the police (he had reprimanded the police guard, but the guard had kept his promise to Rae to not tell anyone that it was Rae who had gotten the guard to leave his post protecting Dana), that the stalker was still out on the loose; Frank insisted that Chelsea put under his watch at the garage apartment. (Chelsea at first protested, but Johnny got her to see this would be for the best.) But Chelsea had wanted to go to Dana's memorial service to read off a memorial to her, but Frank refused. Rae returned to Springfield and went to the memorial service with Rick. Rae feigned surprise over Dana's death and also feigned anxiety over Chelsea's security. Later in the day, sure enough, Chelsea showed up at Dana's memorial and read off a beautiful memorial to Dana, despite Frank's objection of Chelsea doing this. Chelsea later told Frank and Johnny she refused to be scared of her own shadow because of the stalker.
On April 2, 1990, Johnny, Frank and Chelsea attempted to reconstruct the minutes before Dana's death. Not much was gleamed, but there was some. Chelsea noticed that someone had tried to touch the machines that had helped Dana to breathe. Later Frank, away from Johnny and Chelsea, would recall that Rae had been in his garage apartment back in early January 1990 with Rick. Frank also recalled the odd way that Rae expressed her concern over Dana having some familiar items with her, when she awoke from her coma. Then Frank would have a final jolt over who on April 4, 1990 when the reprimanded police guard finally admitted to Frank that it had been Rae Rooney who had flirted with him, on March 26, 1990, and made him leave his post. Frank and Johnny were now certain that Rae was the stalker, but they needed proof. On this same day Rae had a flashback to some of what was driving her to stalk her supposed best friend. About a year before Rae had arrived in Springfield, November 1988 to be exact, Rae had paid a visit to her slightly younger brother, Bobby, who was in a mental institution. Rae remembered a conversation she had with Bobby who was still convinced that Chelsea loved him and would someday arrive at the mental institution to take him out or else. (Bobby's "or else" was him stabbing, with a pair of very dull scissors -- that only were occasionally given out to the patients in the mental institution -- a paper doll he made. One of the staff members then took Bobby's scissors out of his hand when they saw what he had done and said, which left Bobby very broken up.) Rae then was horrified to learn that Bobby killed killed himself by slashing his wrist with a razor he had somehow gotten a hold of and the staff doctor, at the mental institution, who informed Rae of Bobby's suicide said it occurred after a game of musical chairs that the patients were playing, where Bobby lost, where one of the musical selections was the song, "Friendship" from the Broadway musical, "Anything Goes." Thus Rae blamed Chelsea for her Brother Bobby's death.
During the first couple of days of April 1990, Rae continued stalking Chelsea with threatening phone calls and threatening notes. Chelsea herself was starting to be convinced that Frank and Johnny were right about Rae being her stalker when Rae had bad reaction to Chelsea opening the music box that played, "Friendship." Of course Rae's boyfriend, Dr. Rick Bauer still professed his love for Rae and never saw any of the incidences other people were telling him that proved that Rae was Chelsea's stalker. On April 7, 1990, Frank and Johnny came up with a plan to prove that Rae was Chelsea's stalker and approached Rick asking him for help to catch Rae. Rick was at first hesitant to believe Rae was guilty of stalking Chelsea, until Frank and Johnny showed him the circumstantial evidence that pointed to Rae's guilt. But it would actually be Chelsea revealing a little more of the past with Rae's brother, Bobby, that would convince Rick that Rae was indeed the stalker. Chelsea told Rick, Frank and Johnny that when she, Bobby and Rae were in college, Bobby was a star athlete that Chelsea wasn't that fond of and Bobby became unglued mentally when Chelsea rejected him to date. Chelsea and started sending Chelsea threatening notes that progressed into dolls with knifes in them and then a dead bird. Chelsea told the college administrators what was happening and Bobby was sent off to a mental institution, and at the time Rae seemed to accept that her brother needed to be institutionalized. Chelsea also said she received a note from Rae, in March 1989, that Bobby had killed himself in February 1989. What Chelsea did not know was that after Bobby was institutionalized well they were in college, that Rae had secretly become convinced that Chelsea would have to one day pay for spurning her brother's affection and this need for revenge against Chelsea escalated in Rae's mind, when Rae learned her brother committed suicide.
With this knowledge from Chelsea, Rae Bobby's past, Rick reluctantly agreed to Johnny and Frank's plan to entrap Rae into admitting that she was indeed Chelsea's stalker. The plan was suppose to go that Rae was to see Chelsea get mad at Frank (which Chelsea did, or at least that's what Rae supposedly saw), on April 8, 1990, and then Chelsea was to move back in with Johnny. Later, Chelsea who was to really stay in Frank's garage apartment, while Rick dressed in a pants suit of Chelsea's was to act as a pretend Chelsea decoy at Johnny's apartment. But what was planned by Frank, Johnny, Rick and Chelsea hit a snag. Unknown to all of them, Rae had watched the performance of Chelsea leaving Frank's and suspected that Rick was helping them when Rick said something about needing go over to Johnny's. Rae paid a pizza deliver to change clothes with her and sent her to Rick's, so when Frank and Johnny opened the door the young woman pizza deliverer was there and not Rae. Rae now dressed as a pizza deliverer paid a visit to Frank's garage apartment and sure enough Chelsea opened the door thinking Frank ordered a pizza for her and was shocked to discover that it was Rae!
Rae started out acting innocently and coy with Chelsea telling her that she wanted to share the pizza out of "Friendship", because "when other friendships are forgot, ours will still be hot," said Rae. With those words, Chelsea knew that Rae was the stalker and knew she had to get out of Frank's apartment. But then Rae pulled a gun on Chelsea (the someone she shot Dana with) and told Chelsea that she wasn't going anywhere. Now Chelsea was sure that Rae was the stalker. Meanwhile, Johnny kept on trying to call Chelsea at Frank's but no one was picking up the phone. Then the line to Frank's garage apartment went dead. On April 10, 1990, realizing that Chelsea was in grave danger, Frank and Johnny rushed to Frank's place. Meanwhile, Rae admitted to Chelsea how much Rae blamed Chelsea for her brother's mental condition (Rae claimed Chelsea had led him on) and his death the previous February. Chelsea tried to reason with Rae, but to without any avail. Rae was just about to shoot Chelsea, who Rae demanded get down kneel -- when Johnny and Frank arrived. Johnny knocked down the door and then struggled with Rae for the gun and the gun went off! Chelsea screamed certain that Johnny had been killed. He hadn't, the gun instead went off and the bullet went into one of Frank's garage apartment walls. Frank subdued Rae and carted her off to a mental institution with Rae whistling the tune, "Friendship", in front of a horrified but safe Chelsea and Johnny.
