Laurence Lau to Replace Kale Browne

Laurence Lau has joined the cast of One Life to Live in the role of Sam Rappaport.

Daytime fans will recognize Lau as All My Children's Greg Nelson, a role he played from 1981 to 1986. Lau also appeared as Jamie Frame on Another World from 1986 to 1990.

Lau's addition to the cast is dogged by a bit of controversy. Lau isn't creating the role of Sam Rappaport; Lau will be replacing Kale Browne (Sam Rappaport) in the already-established role. Browne was informed last month by One Life to Live's executive producer, Gary Tomlin, that ABC would not be renewing his contract with the show. When the show announced that the role would be recast rather than written out, Browne's fans mobilized to try to convince "The Powers That Be" to reconsider their decision.

Adding further fuel to the fire is some fans' determination that Lau is "too young" to be believable as Sam Rappaport. Browne's birthdate is listed as June 16th 1950. Lau's year of birth, on the other hand, is listed as 1955.

Browne exits the role of Sam with his final appearance on April 11th. Lau's first on-screen appearance is slated for late-April or early-May.
