Brief Character History
Shane is the son of Gigi Morasco and an unknowing, but suspicious, Rex Balsom. He constantly talks about his dead "father", Brody Lovett, a Navy SEAL war hero. In fact, Shane recently created a cartoon all about his hero father for a school assignment.
A precocious kid, Shane was an after school regular at the Bon Jour Café in Paris, TX where his mom worked as a waitress. All of the Bon Jour staff, including prickly owner Moe and especially new waitress Viki, dote on Shane and make sure that his asthma is not getting the best of him.
Shane's whole world changed when an on the lam Marcie McBain, using the name Sally Ann, arrived in Paris and at the Bon Jour with her baby. Marcie befriended Gigi and Shane, even helping him with his school work. When Todd Manning and John McBain came to town to track Marcie down Todd used Shane as a pawn in his plan to get Marcie. Manning and erratic FBI agent Ramsey "kidnapped" Shane and Gigi holding them in a motel room complete with snacks and video games in order to secure Gigi's assistance in luring Marcie out in the open. When Marice was finally arrested in Paris, after taking Viki hostage at the Bon Jour, Gigi was taken into custody for aiding and abetting the fugitive Marcie McBain. Shane pleaded with Viki and she posted Gigi's bail allowing for a reunion between mother and son.
Marcie's trial on charges of kidnapping led Shane and Gigi to Llanview for her trial. After a little persuading, Viki convinced them to stay and to live with her at Llanfair. During his time in Llanview Shane had become quite close to his mom's high school sweetheart, Rex Balsom, and the two could often be found in the kitchen of Llanfair playing video games. At his mother's urging Shane kept his age and birthday a secret from everyone, but most importantly from Rex. However, during that time Gigi and Shane celebrated his 10th birthday in secret.
