Daytime Vet to Assume Role of Alistair Crane

by Dan J Kroll

NBC has recast the role of Alistair Crane. Daytime veteran, John Reilly, will assume the role in January. The role had previous been played by David Bailey, who died in a drowning accident on November 25th.

Reilly has an extensive past in daytime television, having made appearances on four other soaps. Reilly's first foray into daytime television came in 1974 when he became the fourth actor to portray Dr. Danny Stewart on CBS's As the World Turns. He remained with the show through 1976. His next daytime stint -- on ABC's General Hospital -- is probably his best known television role. From 1984 through 1994, Reilly starred opposite the also-popular Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) as GH's WSB agent Sean Donely. More recently, Reilly has appeared as Del Douglas on NBC's short-lived Sunset Beach and as the Marquis de la Cienega on Days of our Lives.

Reilly makes his first appearance as Alistair on January 21st, 2005.
