Three soaps pick up three Creative wins apiece

The 37th Annual Creative Arts and Entertainment Daytime Emmy Awards were presented on Friday, June 25, at a gala held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. The event was hosted by multiple-Emmy winner Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin, The Young and the Restless).

The awards presented during the Creative Arts portion of the Emmys include mostly non-acting categories. Categories include Outstanding Game Show Host; Legal/Courtroom Program; Achievement in Makeup For A Drama Series; Writing in a Children's Series; Achievement in Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design For A Drama Series; and for the first time, Outstanding Stunt Coordination.

“In addition to our esteemed nominees,” said Darryl Cohen, Chairman, NATAS, “I want to thank the entire Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts community. All of us continue to be entertained, enlightened, and educated with the vast array of programming on Daytime television that you provide. You are the backbone of our industry.”

The Daytime Emmy Awards are presented to daytime television programs that are broadcast nationally between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. The eligibility period for this year's Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards was January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009.

This year, seven of the eligible soaps were nominated for Emmys in the various technical categories. Guiding Light did not submit itself into any of the categories because the show had wrapped production well before it was time to make nominations.

At the conclusion of voting, All My Children, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless each picked up three trophies. General Hospital earned one of its wins for its mysterious graffiti tag promotions for James Franco's guest-starring role on the show.

The Bold and the Beautiful earned two Emmys, while One Life to Live won one. As the World Turns and Days of our Lives ended the night winless.

The newly minted Outstanding Stunt Coordination category had five nominees in its inaugural year, four of them from soaps. It was the fifth nominee, the CW's Dragon Knight, that took home the prize.
