Though she recently opted not to renew her contract with The Young and the Restless, Susan Walters (Diane Jenkins) won't find herself with too much free time on her hands. The actress has landed a starring role in a new primetime drama series.
Walters is hardly a stranger to the world of primetime soaps. In the late 1980s, Walters appeared as Ryan on the show Hotel. But it was a role of a different kind that may have cemented Walters' place in American pop culture. In September 1996, Walters appeared as Delores -- or "Mulva" -- in arguably one of the most memorable episodes of Seinfeld.
In her new gig, Walters will play a mother on the new FOX series, Point Pleasant. The new series is being described as a soap opera with a supernatural twist. It's too soon to tell if there will be shadings of daytime's Passions or the cancelled Port Charles on Point Pleasant.
As for her future in Genoa City, Walters doesn't rule out a possible return in the future. However, the actress explains that she wants her character to have a story of her own rather than existing for the sole purpose of advancing another character's story.
Point Pleasant debuts on January 20 at 900pm on the FOX network.
