Ramirez out as Y&R's Carmen

Just four months after her debut, Soap Central has learned that Marisa Ramirez (Carmen Mesta) will exit The Young and the Restless in the next few weeks. The show has already scripted material that will usher the actress' alter ego out of Genoa City.

Ramirez, who joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in May 2006, had the difficult task of creating a character that was devised to be a foil for Drucilla and her marital tensions with husband Neil.

Whispers from the set hinted that Y&R execs, while pleased with Ramirez's work, may have felt that Ramirez was "too young" for the part. For the record, Ramirez is 29; Victoria Rowell (Drucilla Winters) and Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters) are both more than ten years her senior. Fan feedback on our message boards has pointed to a "lack of chemistry" between Ramirez and St. John as a possible reason that the show wants to back away from the character.

Not so, says Y&R's newly appointed executive producer and head writer, Lynn Marie Latham.

"Carmen is not going to be recast," Latham said, disputing information leaked to Soap Central
