Riegel, Carlson exiting All My Children

All My Children will lose its only two members of the sexual minority community this month when fan-favorite Eden Riegel and Jeffrey Carlson exit the show. Neither performer was fired; both opted not to renew their short-term contracts with the show.

Eden Riegel (Bianca Montgomery) returns to All My Children later this month for her annual Christmas visit. And even though the actress' scenes have yet to air, there is already buzz that she might be returning again in 2008.

Riegel joined All My Children in July 2000 and was immediately thrust into a front-burner storyline: Bianca's coming out. For the next five years, the young actress was front and center in nearly all of the show's major plots. It was that constant on-screen presence that led Riegel to four Daytime Emmy nominations in four years. On her fourth try, powered by a remarkable performance in a baby swap storyline, Riegel snared her first Daytime Emmy win in the Outstanding Younger Actress category.

After leaving the show in May 2005, Riegel returned for a series of pop-ins in 2005 and 2006 before being lured back to the show in October 2006 for a short-term engagement. In April 2007, as had been the case in May 2005, Riegel's Bianca was written out of town with a new love interest.

Show sources will say only that AMC is "interested" in having Riegel return full-time as early as February.

For now, txhough, fans can definitely see Riegel during her two-day guest appearance on December 26 and 27.
