ABC exec comments on future of AMC and OLTL

ABC executive Nathan Varni sheds light on the future of All My Children and One Life to Live now that the network has regained rights to the beloved soaps.

All My Children and One Life to Live fans have been over the moon since the rights to both soap operas reverted back to ABC last month, a move that fueled fan hope that perhaps the network would revive one or both soaps -- or at the very least, bring some fan-favorite Pine Valley and Llanview characters to its last remaining soap, General Hospital.

While the chances of ABC reviving the defunct soaps remain very slim, network executive Nathan Varni shares that it's quite possible more AMC and OLTL characters could make it to Port Charles.

Varni posted to the "Save AMC and OLTL" Facebook page, writing that he and the powers that be at ABC are "elated" to have the rights back to the two shows after a very lengthy legal battle with Prospect Park, the production company that secured the rights to AMC and OLTL in an effort to bring them online after ABC canceled the shows in 2011.

"Please know we are actively discussing these matters on a daily basis. We will be taking our time though in planning out the future," Varni wrote about the possibility of GH incorporating AMC and OLTL characters. "As we are written out several months in advance, any use of characters from AMC and OLTL would have to be done in the right way, a way that makes sense for the future stories of GH while respecting the characters and their development from OLTL and AMC."

He continues, "When I know more, clearly we'll let the fans know more. I wanted to reach out though to say we are listening and active conversations are always on-going on this topic. Thank you for your time, patience and passion for these soaps and the wonderfully memorable characters they bestowed on to the viewing audience over the years."

GH isn't a stranger to bringing characters from its now-defunct sister soaps to Port Charles. Before Prospect Park won the rights to OLTL, Llanview favorites John McBain (Michael Easton), Starr Manning (Kristen Alderson), and Todd Manning (Roger Howarth) moved to GH. However, the ABC soap had to change the actors' characters when PP took over, leading to the creation of Kiki for Alderson, the resurrection of Caleb Morley for Easton, and the recasting of Franco for Howarth. Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair Cramer) and Florencia Lozano (ex-Téa Delgado) also made brief appearances on GH following the cancellation of OLTL.

Would you support having characters from AMC and OLTL appear on GH, or do you think there are already enough characters in Port Charles? If you're down for it, which AMC and OLTL characters would you love to see show up in Port Charles?
