All My Children star Kelly Ripa (Hayley Santos) has revealed some new information about the upcoming primetime reboot of the beloved soap opera that she and her husband, Mark Conseulos (Mateo Santos), are producing.
As Soap Central previously reported, the revival -- tentatively titled Pine Valley -- will focus on the Santos and Kane families. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ripa explains how the original cast will fit into the picture, sharing, "We would be the parents, and this show is really more about the children of Pine Valley."
But just because the main characters of the upcoming reboot will be members of Pine Valley's younger generation doesn't mean that the material will be immature. In fact, Ripa says it will be quite the opposite.
"It's a darker look at things, and I'm very excited about it," she previews. "It was pitched to us and we were like, 'We will absolutely produce this. And we want to be a part of it.' Immediately we called [former All My Children costar Eva LaRue (Maria Santos)], all of our friends, and we started saying, 'Just be at the ready. Get ready.'"
Ripa also enthuses that she is beyond thrilled to revisit her All My Children roots via the primetime revival, enthusing that the show "is responsible for every singular good thing that has happened in my life. I met my husband there, I had my children there -- not in the studio but pretty close! They kept you there until your contractions were five minutes apart, as we like to say -- and it's from there that I got the talk show [Live! With Kelly and Ryan]. It's from there that I got [Hope & Faith].... and our first production deal [at TLC]. So it's truly responsible for every good thing in my life that's happened to me."
