Set around five years before the events of the main series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes focuses on the shadows beneath the shiny hero society. This happened before Izuku Midoriya ever inherited One For All or hoofed into U.A. High.

It challenges the idea that only licensed heroes can make a difference and reveals the flaws and limitations of Japan’s hero system. And yet, many of its characters should have appeared in the main series. This world of heroes was already swarming with chaos, corruption, and unsung watchdogs.

1. Iwao Oguro (Knuckleduster)

  • Quirk: Overclock (Former)
  • Abilities: Expert martial artist, strong stamina, sharp intellect
  • Notable Trait: Takes justice into his own hands, works outside the system

A gritty former pro hero turned vigilante, Iwao Oguro, aka Knuckleduster, brought raw strength and street-smart experience to My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. His no-nonsense approach to justice and hand-to-hand combat made him a standout character.

His existence in the main series could have proposed a darker, more grounded contrast to the polished pro heroes. He would've been the ideal underground mentor to characters like Aizawa or even Deku.

2. Kazuho Haneyama (Pop☆Step)

  • Quirk: Leap
  • Abilities: Agile, acrobatic, excellent parkour skills
  • Notable Trait: Balanced idol life with vigilantism and personal growth

Kazuho Haneyama, famously known as Pop☆Step, stood out as more than just an energetic street performer turned vigilante. Her storyline delved deep into self-discovery and personal salvation. As an idol turned hero, she brought a unique blend of charisma and courage. The dynamic she shared with Koichi and Knuckleduster added a vibrant and emotional layer to My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. Kazuho deserved to shine in the main timeline, showing how everyday people can step up and become heroes.

3. Koichi Haimawari (The Crawler)

  • Quirk: Slide and Glide
  • Abilities: Quick reflexes, strategy, enhanced Quirk development
  • Notable Trait: Underdog hero who grows beyond expectations

Koichi, the heart of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, changed from a clumsy college student into a symbol of hope. His growth and compassion made him one of the most relatable characters in the MHA universe. The fact that he never met Deku, despite their similar pursuits, was a missed opportunity. Koichi could’ve smoothly become a precious figure in the main story, like Spider-Man in a world of Iron Man.

4. Christopher Skyline (Captain Celebrity)

  • Quirk: Flight & Force Field
  • Abilities: High mobility, strong defensive capabilities, public charm
  • Notable Trait: Charismatic show-off who grows into a true hero

Captain Celebrity was a walking contradiction—vain, selfish, yet heroic when it mattered most. A foreign pro hero with a flashy Quirk and questionable morals, he brought humor and chaos to My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. His presence in the main series would’ve opened up international hero dynamics much earlier. He is the kind of over-the-top character MHA fans love to hate—and secretly root for.

5. Soga Kugisaki

  • Quirk: Spike
  • Abilities: Skilled in street fighting, strategy, and information gathering
  • Notable Trait: Redeemed character with streetwise toughness

Soga was introduced as a delinquent but quickly showed layers of loyalty and growth. With sharp instincts and solid fighting abilities, he proved to be a crucial companion to Koichi in the heat of battle and on the streets. Beneath his tough demeanor, Soga was fiercely loyal and deeply cared for those close to him. In the main series, he could've added a street-level perspective. His development mirrored that of many Class 1-A students, especially Bakugo.

6. Kuin Hachisuka

  • Quirk: Queen Bee
  • Abilities: High-level manipulation, stealth, and surveillance
  • Notable Trait: Introduces a chilling, mind-bending terror rarely seen in the hero society

Kuin Hachisuka was a terrifying presence in the series, manipulating people through her wasp-like Quirk. As one of the earliest threats, she brought horror and psychological warfare into the mix. Her ability to infect and control others opened doors to storytelling that MHA never explored. Had she entered the main series, her Quirk would’ve clashed brilliantly with characters like Tokoyami or Tsuyu. Kuin added an edge of unpredictability and chaos.

7. Rokuro Nomura (Number 6)

  • Quirk: Overclock, Self-detonation, Regeneration, Radio Waves, and Bombify
  • Abilities: Super speed, high intellect, body modifications, multiple forms
  • Notable Trait: A terrifying reflection of society’s neglect

Number 6 or Rokuro from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is easily one of the most menacing villains from the whole franchise. He was twisted, obsessive, and absolutely unhinged. His entire existence revolved around surpassing others, especially Koichi, whom he viewed as his personal rival. Number 6 wasn’t after fame or fortune. He wanted to be noticed, to become someone, even if it meant burning the world to ash. His downfall into madness brought the shadiest junctures in the spin-off series.

8. Makoto Tsukauchi

  • Quirk: Polygraph
  • Abilities: Investigative skills, information analysis, data gathering
  • Notable Trait: Acts as the brains behind the operation

Makoto may not have had flashy powers or combat skills, but her role in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes was essential. She is a sharp, determined journalist and the sister of Naomasa Tsukauchi (the detective from the main series). She played a pivotal role in assisting Koichi and his crew, often providing crucial intel and support. Her analytical mind and fearless pursuit of the truth made her one of the unsung heroes of the story.

In conclusion, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes added much more depth to the world of heroes. These characters, with their Quirks, flaws, and courage, deserve a place in the spotlight of the main story.
