Few groups in One Piece are as universally despised as the Celestial Dragons, also known as the World Nobles. These so-called “descendants of the creators of the world” are the direct heirs of 19 of the 20 kings who banded together 800 years ago to form the World Government.
They abandoned their homelands and settled in Mary Geoise, the “Domain of the Gods” atop the Red Line, leaving their citizens behind to pay an endless Heavenly Tribute for the upkeep of their luxurious lives.
The Celestial Dragons are infamous for their cruelty, arrogance, and detachment from humanity. They walk the world wearing glass bubble helmets to avoid “breathing the same air” as commoners, enslave humans and Fish-Men alike, and summon Marine Admirals at will if anyone dares defy them.
Yet, despite their overwhelming influence, One Piece has slowly peeled back the curtain on which noble families actually sit at the top of the world. Here’s a breakdown of every Celestial Dragon family revealed so far.
List of all Celestial Dragon families introduced in One Piece
The Donquixote Family

The Donquixotes are perhaps the most fleshed-out Celestial Dragon family in the series. Unlike most nobles, they play a direct role in the narrative thanks to Donquixote Doflamingo, the infamous “Heavenly Yaksha.”
- Donquixote Homing – The father of Doflamingo, Homing was one of the few Celestial Dragons to willingly renounce his status. Believing in living among regular humans, he moved his family to the North Blue. Unfortunately, this decision led to tragedy, as his family was hunted and tortured for being former nobles. Homing himself was eventually killed.
- Donquixote Doflamingo – His son, Doflamingo, grew up hating both humans and Celestial Dragons. Though disowned, he leveraged his knowledge of the “National Treasure of Mary Geoise” to blackmail the World Government, regaining privileges even without official noble status. He went on to become a Warlord of the Sea and one of the most dangerous villains in the series.
- Donquixote Rosinante (Corazon) – Doflamingo’s younger brother, Rosinante, turned away from his family’s cruelty and joined the Marines. He sacrificed his life to save Trafalgar Law, cementing himself as one of the few noble souls among the so-called “nobility.”
- Saint Donquixote Mjosgard – Introduced at Fish-Man Island, Mjosgard initially embodied the arrogance of his class, but his near-death experience and Queen Otohime’s compassion reformed him. Later, during the Reverie arc, he defended Shirahoshi from his fellow nobles, showing that not all Celestial Dragons are irredeemable.
The Donquixotes highlight the spectrum of Celestial Dragon behavior—from the depravity of Doflamingo to the surprising redemption of Mjosgard.
The Rosward Family

If the Donquixotes embody complexity, the Roswards represent pure entitlement and cruelty.
- Saint Rosward - A greedy, cruel man, Rosward was introduced during the Sabaody Archipelago arc. He oversaw human auctions, buying slaves without a second thought.
- Saint Charlos - One of the most infamous Celestial Dragons in the series, Charlos attempted to enslave Camie the mermaid for sport, only to be punched in the face by Luffy in one of the most cathartic moments in the series. His arrogance and pettiness make him the quintessential hated noble.
- Saint Shalria - Charlos’s sister, who shares his arrogance and prejudice.
The Roswards have become symbolic of everything wrong with the Celestial Dragons: greed, cruelty, and a warped sense of superiority.
The Figarland Family

A relatively recent addition to the canon, the Figarlands appear to hold one of the highest statuses among Celestial Dragons.
- Saint Figarland Garling - The Supreme Commander of the God’s Knights, Garling is not just a Celestial Dragon but also a powerful fighter. His role places him above most other nobles, giving him authority to even judge and execute his peers.
- Saint Figarland Shamrock - A female member of the family, though her role has yet to be fully explored.
- Shanks (Speculated) - One Piece Film: Red first hinted that Shanks may be a Figarland by blood. It raised fascinating questions about how a man of noble blood chose the path of a pirate and one of freedom.
The Figarlands may prove central to the final saga, given their connections to both the God’s Knights and possibly the Yonko.
The Shepherd Family

Another family with multiple members has been identified, though with little characterization so far.
- Saint Shepherd Ju Peter
- Saint Shepherd Sommers
Both were introduced by name but have yet to play a significant role. Their inclusion, however, suggests the Shepherds are an influential noble family within Mary Geoise.
The Manmayer Family

Saint Manmayer Gunko – The only named member of the Manmayers, Gunko has been identified as part of the Celestial Dragon elite, though much about her remains shrouded in mystery.
This family demonstrates how many nobles exist unseen in the background, their power untested but undeniable.
The Rimoshifu Family

Saint Rimoshifu Killingham – Known for his distinctive respirator-equipped bubble helmet, Killingham is part of the Rimoshifu line. Like Gunko, his role is mostly background, but his design has made him memorable among the lesser-known saints.
The Nefertari Family (The "traitors" in One Piece)

Technically, the Nefertaris of Alabasta were one of the original Twenty Families, but chose not to relocate to Mary Geoise. Instead, they remained in Alabasta, earning the scorn of their peers as “traitors.”
This decision spared Vivi and Cobra from becoming Celestial Dragons, allowing them to remain connected to their people. Ironically, it is the Nefertaris who have demonstrated true nobility, contrasting starkly with the cruelty of Mary Geoise’s residents.
Final thoughts
The Celestial Dragons of One Piece are a carefully crafted depiction of absolute power corrupting absolutely. Families like the Roswards and Donquixotes highlight their cruelty, while figures like Mjosgard and the Nefertaris offer rare glimpses of humanity. The introduction of the Figarlands and the increasing spotlight on the Gorosei show that Oda still has much more to reveal about this ruling class.
As the story barrels toward its final saga, these families, whether corrupt tyrants or hidden allies, will play a decisive role in shaping the fate of the world. And perhaps, when the dust settles, the age of the Celestial Dragons will finally come to an end.
