The Bleach universe is rich with fascinating lore that stretches back to the beginning of the world itself. Most of the series’ history is revealed during the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc, where the Quincy King Yhwach aims to overthrow the all-powerful yet enigmatic Soul King.

At the height of tensions, an entity known as Mimihagi makes its appearance, drawing the intrigue of fans due to its connection to pivotal individuals. Mimihagi is the right arm of the Soul King and is worshipped as a god in the districts of Easter Rukongai.

A great portion of its past was never revealed in Bleach, but it began its existence once the Soul King was betrayed by the five families and his body parts were dismembered. In the time he was sealed, his left arm and heart became sentient beings and joined Yhwach. They took the names of Pernida Parnkgjas and Gerard Valkyrie. The right arm, Mimihagi, continued to be on the side of the Soul Reapers.

Mimihagi’s first appearance came during Bleach’s Thousand-Year Blood War Arc. After the Soul King’s death, the three worlds faced the threat of crumbling due to Yhwach’s schemes. Jushiro Ukitake then stepped up and revealed his hidden power. This turned out to be Mimihagi.

When Ukitake was three years old, he had a severe lung disease that could not be treated by any doctors. His parents then went to Mimihagi and prayed to the god. The Soul King’s right arm heeded their call and took over Ukitake’s lungs.

This allowed the Soul Reaper to continue functioning normally, though he had always expected a time to arise when his power would be required. Finally, when Yhwach had nearly succeeded in destroying the realms, Ukitake sacrificed his body and became a vessel to Mimihagi.

The right arm of the Soul King manifested as darkness and extended all the way to the Soul King Palace. By taking the place of the Soul King, Mimihagi then stabilized the world again for a short duration. Unfortunately, Ichigo and the other Soul Reapers couldn’t take advantage of this as they were outmatched by Yhwach and the Schutzstaffel.

By the end, Mimihagi was absorbed by Yhwach, drastically amplifying the Quincy King’s powers. Consequently, the darkness emerging from the host, Ukitake, disappeared, leaving the Soul Reaper to die unceremoniously.

How powerful is Mimihagi in Bleach?

Mimihagi may seem to be a weak entity due to its short role and quick defeat against Yhwach, but that is not the case. Rather, it is a highly powerful being whose powers cannot be judged traditionally. As the right arm of the Soul King, Mimihagi possesses an unmatched amount of spiritual energy.

It is not affected by The Almighty and could have stabilized all three worlds for a long period if not for Yhwach’s intervention. Most importantly, Mimihagi is treated as a deity that governs stillness. Through its power of Stagnation Governance, it can stop development and growth itself.

This is given as a blessing to subjects who offer Mimihagi any body part except their eye. As seen in the case of Ukitake, his parents had given Mimihagi their child’s lung in exchange for stopping the progress of his illness.

Finally, the host of Mimihagi can perform the Divine Vow, Kamikake, to sacrifice the rest of their body and become a complete vessel. This will result in Mimihagi’s shadow-like form emerging from their body and using its unparalleled powers. However, the vessel will eventually end up dying should they use the Kamikake.
