Blue Box: Do Taiki and Chinatsu end up together?

Blue Box is a romantic sports manga created by Kouji Miura that has captivated fans through its blend of heartfelt romance and competitive athletics. The series rapidly gained popularity through its 25-episode anime adaptation by Telecom Animation Film, but viewers were slightly upset that they never got to see the male and female leads end up together.

While the sequel has been greenlit, details of its release date and episode count remain a mystery. As a result, there are, unsurprisingly, several fans who may wish to know the fate of the main characters. Yes, Taiki and Chinatsu do end up together in Blue Box, and this happens in chapter 103 of the manga.

Blue Box is a manga that places equal emphasis on romance and sports, focusing on the aspiring badminton player Taiki Inomata and the talented basketball player Chinatsu Kano. Despite Chinatsu being his senior, Taiki has a huge crush on her but struggles to express his feelings. Chinatsu, on the other hand, also begins noticing Taiki because of his relentless work ethic.

The pair gets a chance to grow much closer when Chinatsu starts living together with Taiki due to the friendship between their parents. What was once a distant relationship soon becomes a close bond, where both motivate each other to grow.

Blue Box, unlike most other romance manga, is slow-paced and focuses on subtle development over comedic gimmicks and misunderstandings. The series’ main characters are shy and awkward, perfectly representing their adolescence. As a result, they are not forthcoming with their feelings and need to be pushed to take gradual steps.

Rather than being frustrating, however, it is natural, and watching Taiki and Chinatsu grow together is a deeply emotional experience. At the same time, since the series also places equal focus on sports, and both Taiki and Chinatsu have other prospective partners who like them, fans may become restless to know their fate.

Thankfully, as mentioned, they do get together, and it happens in chapter 103 of the manga, during the Confession Arc. Should the anime maintain its pacing when it returns, this iconic moment will likely be adapted in the next season.

In this set of chapters, Chinatsu and Taiki grow closer than ever, even sharing a hug on Christmas Eve. With both of them realizing that they can’t keep their feelings concealed any longer, the tensions are at their highest.

However, before they can have a heartfelt conversation, Chinatsu heads home to Nagano to spend time with her family. Coincidentally, Taiki also goes on a skiing trip with his badminton club near Chinatsu’s house. Despite not wishing to intrude on her personal time, Taiki grows desperate to pour his heart out and rushes to meet Chinatsu at the frozen Konami Lake.

Right when Chinatsu starts to leave the lake, she gets a call and discovers Taiki is on his way. Having grown just as anxious as him, she gets out of her family’s car and meets him at the lake. After the two reunite, Taiki confesses his feelings to the senior he has always admired.

Flustered, Chinatsu replies that she likes him too. Together, they decide that they will start dating from that point forward.

Does Blue Box end with the confession scene?

Since many romance anime tend to end with the confession between the leads, fans may have assumed the same for Blue Box. However, this tale continues to be unique, as it doesn’t end with the confession, but instead opens another chapter in the characters’ lives.

Having decided to go out, Taiki and Chinatsu face a whole new set of challenges related to dating. Staying in the same home and dealing with their families and friends is only the beginning of the obstacles. Nevertheless, as the two of them head into an uncertain future, they continue supporting each other and being present for one another during both their highest and lowest points.

However, fans should not expect too many conventional romantic scenes between the two, even while dating, since they remain timid and clumsy.
