The Boruto series has created an interesting set of characters that fans have come to love. Naturally, not all characters receive love from fans. In fact, the protagonist himself was criticized by fans. It’s difficult to discuss characters in this series without bringing up Kawaki. He is the deuteragonist in this story, and shared a strong bond with Boruto. However, things haven’t been all roses for these two characters.

Furthermore, fans have taken the time to analyze Kawaki’s journey so far. There is no doubt that he has gotten exceptionally powerful from the time he was first introduced. On that front, his journey has been rather fruitful. However, he has hurt the fewest people who have given him a shot at life. Kawaki had an abusive father who quite literally sold his son to Jigen, the leader of the Kara organization. At that point, Jigen needed a suitable vessel, and Kawaki was reduced to just that.

It wasn’t until Naruto’s intervention that he had the chance to live a good life. The Seventh Hokage is the reason why he can live the life he does right now. It’s not that Kawaki isn’t thankful for the things that Naruto has done. In fact, he explicitly stated that he owed Naruto his life. That being said, he is why Naruto is suspended in an alternate dimension where time does not flow.

Kawaki put him in that dimension himself, and this was done to stop him from interfering with his plans. He wishes to kill Boruto in order to stop Momoshiki from resurfacing and hurting the people he loves. He quite literally wants to save Naruto by killing his only son. Furthermore, Boruto was a great friend. Kawaki was like a brother to him, and their dynamics were also similar to one that is shared between two siblings.

Boruto: Will Kawaki and the protagonist’s relationship improve?

It is very unlikely that Kawaki and Boruto’s relationship will improve throughout the series. The protagonist is a full-fledged Otsutsuki now. Furthermore, we saw him flee the battlefield after beating Kawaki in a fight earlier in the Two Blue Vortex series. This was after Kawaki activated his Karma Mode. This, in turn, proves that the resonant effect was working, and Momoshiki might have been on the verge of resurfacing.

Kawaki will not stop until Boruto is dead. Therefore, the protagonist will also give his best to save his own life. There is no way that their relationship will get any better throughout the series. Furthermore, he also sealed Naruto and Hinata in the alternate dimension. Once they figure out a way to neutralize the Shinju, Kawaki will definitely hit the protagonist with everything he has.

Based on how the series is progressing at the moment, it seems like Boruto and Kawaki will leave it all on the battlefield. It is very unlikely that they will be on good terms, especially when one wants to kill the other. Naruto played a crucial role in allowing Kawaki to live a fulfilling life. His son was like a brother to Kawaki. However, Kawaki’s decisions have hurt both of these people. His harsh reactions ended up hurting the only few people who created a safe space for him to grow as a shinobi.
