Boruto and its sequel series, Two Blue Vortex, have done an admirable job of carrying forward the legacy of the Naruto universe. By introducing memorable characters, exciting jutsu, and new aspects to the lore, the story has managed to continue attracting new fans.
Among the additions to the series, the Human God Trees are the most intriguing. As the primary antagonists of Two Blue Vortex, this group has overturned the existing power structure in Boruto. Ryu is one of the Human God Trees, born when a Claw Grime consumed Shinki.
After the birth of the Human God Trees, Matsuri and the Claw Grimes carried out an attack on the Sunagakure. Despite Gaara’s best efforts, he was left helpless in the face of his overpowering opponents. Right when he was prepared to sacrifice his life, however, his adoptive son Shinki forcefully sealed him.

This ended up protecting Gaara, but Shinki fell prey to the Claw Grimes. Due to this, Shinki’s chakra template resulted in the creation of the newest Human God Tree, Ryu. Right after his birth, Ryu displayed his impressive abilities by discovering the hidden Code. He easily subdued his creator and only let him go after Jura’s orders.
Following this, Ryu also did some soul-searching and discovered that his main target was none other than Gaara. Unlike most other Human God Trees, Ryu has a comparatively ordinary personality. He is respectful towards his elders and is typically open-minded. Both he and Matsuri were assigned to track down Boruto, and agreed to team up with Konohamaru’s team.
During the time he spent with the shinobi, Ryu exhibited a keen intellect as well as a sense of humor. He had been paired with Sarada, Mitsuki, Yodo, and Araya, and knew something was fishy with them right from the start. Due to this, he baited them by creating a fake Thorn Soul Bulb, which was believed to be the key to killing a Human God Tree.
Yodo fell for this and attacked, only to find she had been tricked. Ryu joked about how his shinobi friends’ betrayal would give him serious trauma before launching an all-out assault against them. Through this, he showcased his incredible strength.
As a Human God Tree, Ryu possesses the Rinnegan and Wood Release in Boruto. Since he carries Shinki’s chakra template, he also has access to Magnet Release. Ryu’s most formidable skill, however, is his control over Iron Sand. This comes out of his clothing and allows him to manipulate it as he sees fit.
Ryu had used this in his battle against Sarada, Mitsuki, Yodo, and Araya to directly attack them with powerful blows and even coat them with the Iron Sand to control their movements. Through this, he could easily overpower his opponents and deliver a fatal blow to Yodo.
Ryu’s fate in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Right when Ryu’s sand seemed to be too much for the shinobi to handle, Sarada awakened her Mangekyo Sharingan, Ohirume. This ability, triggered by her trauma, allowed her to summon various gravitational orbs that worked similarly to a black hole.
Faced with this, Ryu lost control of his sand and was eventually consumed by an orb. This caused him to implode, leaving behind only his Thorn Soul Bulb. Hence, Ryu is currently incapacitated in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. However, as seen earlier through Hidari’s case, he can be brought back to life if the Human God Trees recover his Thorn Soul Bulb.
On the contrary, should the shinobi take his Thorn Soul Bulb to Shinki’s tree, they could revive his original body. It is yet to be seen what happens since the main cast has suffered great injuries and losses, and Jura is preparing to enter the battlefield.
