The Chainsaw Man manga is now in its second part, known as the Academy Saga, featuring a wide array of captivating new characters. Among them, Fake Chainsaw Man, often referred to as Fakesaw Man, is particularly intriguing and enigmatic.
Fakesaw Man is a recurring figure in the series and has appeared in several random instances. Despite this, fans know little about his identity. Given the events of Chainsaw Man chapter 202, however, there is good reason to believe that Fakesaw Man’s real identity is that of the Fire Devil.
Fakesaw Man’s first appearance came in the Justice Devil Arc, where he had a similar appearance to Denji’s Chainsaw Man and killed Yuko. Soon after, he protected Denji from the Falling Devil and showed up in public as a supporter of the Chainsaw Man Church. Fans had known close to nothing about him apart from the fact that he hated the Death Devil.

He wished to prevent the Prophecy of Nostradamus and saw himself as a representative of justice. However, the current arc of the manga has provided several clues about Fakesaw Man’s identity that have convinced fans that he is the Fire Devil.
Initially, most people believed that Fakesaw Man was simply a person contracted with the Fire Devil. This devil was granting the wishes of multiple individuals under the guise of the Justice Devil, and Fakesaw Man’s resemblance to Pochita was thought to have been obtained through these means. However, chapter 202 of the manga made him display powers that went far beyond anything a mere contractee could wield.
Having fallen under the control of the Death Devil, Fakesaw Man faced off against Denji and Yoru in the streets. Despite claiming to be just, he did not hesitate to kill civilians around him during the battle. In a shocking scene, Fakesaw Man also ended up absorbing several Chainsaw People around him. He used them to upgrade his own body and even controlled the chainsaw enhancements they had been provided by the Fire Devil.
While the absorption of targets could just be an ability of Fakesaw Man, Chainsaw Man has never featured a regular person interfering with the wishes granted by a parent devil. Fakesaw Man’s ability to manipulate those who had received desires by the Fire Devil does not align with the notion that he is simply someone contracted with the Fire Devil.
Hence, the more likely assumption would be that Fakesaw Man is the Fire Devil, and not just a person using the powers of the Fire Devil.
How Chainsaw Man foreshadowed Fakesaw Man’s identity
Fakesaw Man’s identity is not just a guess based on the latest chapter, but built on Fujimoto’s subtle foreshadowing. Earlier in the series, Yoru had told Denji that the Fire Devil worked for the Death Devil and would greet her during her descent.
As we now know, “Fami”, who was in fact the Death Devil, revealed her true identity when the real Famine Devil was introduced. There was only one other person at the scene during this moment, Fakesaw Man. He was soon consumed by the Death Devil and turned into one of her pawns, which supports Yoru’s statement.
Additionally, Fakesaw Man is inherently different from the other individuals contracted with the Fire Devil. Referred to as the Chainsaw People or the Pseudo-Chainsaw People, these fanatics of the Hero of Hell all have relatively unimposing chainsaws sticking out of their heads and bodies.
Fakesaw Man, on the other hand, looks like a bulkier version of Chainsaw Man, and is fearsome and powerful. This sets him apart from the rest, suggesting that he has a closer relationship with the Fire Devil. However, as seen in chapter 202, he could manipulate other contractees, which is more is more authority than any devil would grant a human.
Therefore, the most probable answer to this situation is that Fakesaw Man is not just contracted with the Fire Devil, but is the Fire Devil. His recent change in attitude, where he ruthlessly kills innocent citizens, is also similar to that of the immoral devils.
