The Chainsaw Man manga is currently in its second part, titled the Academy Saga, and has introduced several intriguing characters to this universe of devils and Devil Hunters. Nayuta is one of the most memorable in this list, playing a key role in the protagonist’s life and having one of the most shocking fates in the series.
Nayuta is the reincarnation of the Control Devil and is adopted as Denji’s younger sister in Chainsaw Man Part 2. At the end of Chainsaw Man Part 1, Denji killed Makima but failed to completely extinguish the Control Devil. Kishibe then introduced him to a little girl he found in China, who was the new Control Devil.
Unlike Makima, however, this girl, called Nayuta, had yet to turn evil. To ensure she did not steer off course, Kishibe assigned Denji to take care of her. Though initially reluctant, the protagonist took her in and started staying with her and their pets. Having craved a normal family, he began treating Nayuta as his younger sister.

Hence, Nayuta is Denji’s primary emotional bond in Chainsaw Man Part 2. Though she is different from Makima, both Control Devils share some similarities. They have identical eyes with concentric circles and initially seem inexpressive. Nayuta originally also saw Denji as inferior to her and bit his hand, similar to Makima.
However, with time, she grew into her role as his sister and began seeing Denji as her elder brother. Nayuta enjoyed the time she spent at home with Denji and her pets, and was an emotional crutch to the protagonist.
She was highly protective of Denji and always wanted to receive more of his attention than anyone else. Due to this, when she caught Asa and Denji together, she did not hesitate to turn the girl into a dog. Denji also succeeded in giving Nayuta a normal life, as she was excited to go to school, and even when “Fami” was telling her about the Prophecy of Nostradamus.
The bond shared by brother and sister is a key plot thread in Chainsaw Man. The relationship of equals between Nayuta and Denji is heartwarming, especially considering the trauma left behind by the previous Control Devil. While Makima used her powers to manipulate Denji, Nayuta uses hers to support him.
She is not as adept at wielding her skills as Makima, but Nayuta is still a figure to be feared. Nayuta can link with others using a chain and control them, although there have been cases where the ability has failed her. Additionally, Nayuta can alter the perceptions of targets. She can erase and plant memories, as well as change senses like taste.
Nayuta’s fate in Chainsaw Man
One of the biggest twists in Chainsaw Man revolves around Nayuta’s fate in the second part. When Denji was targeted by the Chainsaw Man Church, the sadistic Barem Bridge attempted to complete Makima’s objective of bringing out Pochita’s true form.
For its sake, he made Denji face tragedies yet again, starting with burning his house and pets. Soon after, Denji and Nayuta were attacked by a mob of civilians being manipulated by Barem. While Nayuta used her powers and managed to get Denji to safety, she ended up being overpowered. As she was about to be killed by the mob, however, the series left readers on a cliffhanger.
While the new Control Devil’s fate was not readdressed for a long time, Fujimoto finally revealed it in the Aging Devil Arc. When Denji was desperately searching for his missing sister, he ran into Barem inside a sushi restaurant. As the antagonist told the protagonist about his goals, he ordered the sushi chef to send out a dish.
At this point, both fans and characters were horrified to find Nayuta’s head being sent down the sushi conveyor belt. Seeing his younger sister dead caused Denji to lose consciousness, making the real Chainsaw Man come out and unleash carnage.
There have been endless fan theories about how Nayuta is not conclusively dead, given the unceremonious nature of her passing. Nevertheless, her last appearance was only as a severed head, and until the series gives proof of how she could still be alive, Nayuta is currently deceased in Chainsaw Man.
