Dandadan Chapter 217 has shown how much Okarun has grown as a character and what lengths he will go through to protect Momo. Both of them were initially pushed to go on a date, and suddenly, the duo were running away from countless aliens chasing them. This soon escalates into a mysterious awakening within Okarun that readers have been anticipating, some without even realizing it.

This chapter begins with Okarun and Momo trying to still run away as Serpo are closing in on a fast pace. Currently, neither of them has access to their original powers, which has forced them to rely on their instincts. That is when, in the previous chapter, when the aliens launched the Awesome Zone attack, Momo was defenseless until Okarun swooped right in to defend them. It was because of all the Ki training he was undergoing.

Okarun realizes he still has the Oni Club on him, a gift from Seiko, Momo’s grandmother, and uses it as their only means of counterattack. When Momo tries to use Sanjome’s whistle to call for help, Okarun urges her to conserve her energy and run. Their goal becomes clear: reach Jiji’s house and regroup. He is now able to understand in Dandadan Chapter 217 on how to use the club, although it is not perfected.

Meanwhile, the Serpo enlists Mr. Dris, the mummy-like alien riding a bicycle, to help capture the pair. And since he has been proactive in attacking the duo, the stakes in Dandadan Chapter 217 have just intensified. As the Serpo have also confirmed they are allowed to take the duo dead or alive, this means their life are on the line.

In this chapter, Mr. Dris’ sword strikes nearly break Okarun’s guard, but Okarun manages to transform the Oni Club using his spiritual power, reshaping it into a makeshift weapon. It’s impressive but temporary. The weapon weakens, revealing just how inexperienced Okarun still is with spiritual summoning.

Just when things seem hopeless, Count Saint-Germain’s Kur henchwoman arrives, and she is shown to be wearing an exosuit as part of her deal with the Count. She makes one thing very clear in Dandadan Chapter 217 that she is not a friendly ally. The reason she is on scene is because she is simply doing her job. It is revealed that she was given the order that whenever the whistle was blown, she had to go and help whosoever blew it.

Even when the Serpo accuses her of siding with Momo, something she vehemently denies. Still, she fights the Serpo with overwhelming force, giving Okarun the breathing room he desperately needed. This is where Dandadan Chapter 217 reveals the growing complexity behind Count Saint-Germain. We still do not understand his motivation. But his actions show a consistent pattern: he protects Momo, even through morally gray methods.

With the Serpo temporarily pushed back, Okarun and Mr. Dris clash in close combat. Okarun taps into his ki training and manages to slice off Dris’ arm, an incredible feat that would have been impossible earlier in the series. But Dris is unfazed. The detached arm simply wraps around and stabs Okarun through the chest.

This is the moment Dandadan Chapter 217 builds toward. Readers who noticed Okarun’s chest glowing in Chapter 216 will immediately connect the dots: The stab lands in the same spot, and this isn’t random; it’s the trigger. It seems like Okarun’s spiritual awakening is beginning.

Whether this leads to a new form, a hidden ability, or an evolution of his existing powers, the chapter ends on the cusp of something game-changing. Just as Momo awakened her power during a moment of emotional intensity in Chapter 1, Okarun may now be experiencing his own catalyst. Dandadan Chapter 217 ends on a sharp cliffhanger: Okarun is injured, power stirring, and Momo is left with a heartbreakingly familiar fear.
