Dandadan: Should you watch the movie now or wait for Season 2

As Dandadan creators have announced a new Dandadan movie adaptation alongside a release date for Season 2, fans have been at a crossroads; that is, should they watch the movie, or is it smarter to hold out for the anime to release?

Personally, I’ll be watching the movie as soon as it hits screens because I am hooked since I read chapter 1 of the manga. That said, I fully recognize that this may not be the best decision for many fans, because the movie is technically the first three episodes of season 2 of Dandadan.

Depending on your viewing style, it could be worth it to go to your nearest cinema on June 6th, 2025, and experience the Evil Eye story arc. For those who are casual anime watchers or someone who prefers story-driven pacing, it would be advisable to wait for July 3, 2025, as Netflix and Crunchyroll will air the next season.

For those who are inclined but doubtful about going to the movie, let me explain why it would be a unique, one-time theatrical experience. If you’ve watched Season 1, you already know how off-the-rails this show gets. Now imagine all of that supercharged with a movie budget, and how thrilling it would be to watch your favorite duo on the big screen during the Evil Eye arc.

Let’s be real, anime movie hype is real. The day the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie dropped, it was all over every social platform. The same thing happened with Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train. If the Dandadan movie hits the same way, I don’t want to be left out. Because one thing is for sure, other people who have come to watch this film will share a similar vibe of enthusiasm, and it will be a collective experience.

Additionally, there is something about going to watch a movie in a cinema hall that cannot be said the same for watching it on our normal screens. But I also know the real heart of Dandadan lives in the slow burn of the series format. And I’ll be right back, refreshing Crunchyroll the second Season 2 drops.

Finally, watching the movie gives you early access to the tone, pacing, and themes of the new season. That way, when the full season starts airing, you’re already locked in emotionally and narratively. So we know what to expect when season 2 starts.

Why should you wait for Season 2 of Dandadan?

Understandably, not everyone would be willing to watch this movie in the theater, knowing that the anime is going to cover the events anyway. So let us talk about some points from the point of view of those who want to wait. The anime pacing is tailored to 20-minute episodes that cover the events of the manga without feeling rushed.

Another strong reason is that three episodes don’t make a full arc. If you’re expecting a satisfying standalone movie experience, this won’t be that. It’ll feel more like an extended prologue: fun, energetic, but not narratively self-contained. If we are paying theater prices, there is a chance that some of them might feel underwhelmed.

Finally, waiting means one could get to enjoy the Season 2 premiere with the full fandom, react together, and feel the shared momentum all over again.

In conclusion, I feel everyone should experience the Dandadan movie in the theater, as it will be a visual treat. Also, having read the manga, I know what to expect out of the story, and I know it would not be disappointing.

And Science Saru is taking over the animation; we can sit back and appreciate their hard work. Finally, whether you experience it through the breathless energy of a movie or the satisfying drip-feed of an episodic season, you’re in for something special.
