The anime Boruto expands the story of Naruto by following the path of younger generations in the shinobi world. As Boruto Uzumaki, Sarada Uchiha, Mitsuki, and other characters take the stage, the series does not lose the old characters who had a significant role in the first series.
Of them, Hinata Hyuga stands out as a focus, not only because she is married to Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage, but also because she is the mother of Boruto and Himawari. With the plot progressing, lots of fans are very concerned about what happens to Hinata, especially when the story starts getting a darker spin and indicating that significant losses and irrevocable occurrences will be present.
Thus, does Hinata die in Boruto? To date, Hinata Hyuga is not dead in both the Boruto anime and manga. Although there have indeed been heavy implications about Naruto and Hinata in the future, such as the threatening words of Kawaki and the cryptic, ominous flash-forwards that tease her death at the hands of Kawaki, it has not been confirmed on-screen or canonically.
The time skip in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has only led to more rumors and speculative theories of the fandom, as it appears that something cataclysmic must have occurred to both Naruto and Hinata. But those are narrative decisions, not proof of anything.
Most of the speculation concerning the fate of Hinata is attributed to a flash-forward scene, at the start of Boruto, in which an elder Boruto faces off with Kawaki in a destroyed Hidden Leaf Village. Kawaki says to Boruto that he will also send him to the same place as the Seventh, which is an indication that something horrible has already happened to Naruto.
Of course, fans started to think about Hinata's role in this situation. Being the wife of Naruto and a custodian of the household, there was much apprehension among people that in case Naruto was targeted or put under seal, the same could happen to Hinata, and in a more crushing way. However, these are still speculations and not definitive statements.
Also, over the series, Hinata has been made less prominent. Compared to her presence in Naruto, where she contributed to some of its largest arcs, in Boruto, her role has changed to that of a supportive mother in the background. Coupled with the relative rise in importance of newer characters, this has brought about decreased screen time, which some fans have taken to as an interpretation of foreshadowing.
Nevertheless, not appearing does not necessarily mean death, particularly in such a wide story like Boruto.
What is also interesting to consider is the role Hinata plays in the Hyuga clan, and how she grows throughout the original Naruto series. The story of her passage to a brave, self-confident ninja and a caring mother humanizes her and makes her one of the most beloved characters of the franchise.
Eliminating such a character that lacks significant weight in the story would be out of character for the series. Up till now, there has been no such payoff or thematic buildup that would warrant her killing, all the more so when you consider the symbolic status she holds in the Uzumaki home.
Hinata's Role in the World of Boruto
In Boruto, Hinata continues to be the rock of the Uzumaki family and counterbalances the seemingly absent Naruto with her loving care. Her interactions with Boruto are always sweet, though sometimes tense, as Boruto is proud and annoyed of his father being the Hokage.
Hinata moderates these feelings and also provides the emotional maturity that Naruto fails to provide at times, given the amount of work he has.
She is also a protective maternal figure in the series, especially in regards to her children. She no longer undertakes full-time shinobi activities, but her skills in battle, which were developed in Naruto: Shippuden, cannot be underestimated.
Many fans believe that as long as there is the possibility that at one time, the lives of Boruto and Himawari are in danger, Hinata and her Byakugan powers will be solicited once more.
The speculations over the whereabouts of Naruto and Hinata are still common following the last time skip episode in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. There is an overarching possibility that they have been imprisoned rather than killed, especially now that Kawaki seems to be so in love that he will not even slay Naruto.
Should such an occurrence take place, and Hinata happened to be in the vicinity, it can be expected that she would be sealed or stashed and not straight-up killed.
Finally, the writers of Boruto are cautious about what they do with major deaths. Excluding some of the more important characters, the deaths in the series are not cheap, not even with the likes of Hinata, who is more of a mainstay. Currently, there is no evidence to indicate otherwise, apart from the fact that she might be in hiding or kept outside the game because of the plot twists that are yet to take place.
Recapping, Hinata Hyuga is not yet dead in Boruto, even in the most recent episodes and manga chapters, despite the rumors spinning and cryptic narrating. Her fading appearance and the mystery behind the production of the series have created a lot of speculation, but there is no confirmation that she is dead.
Throughout the series, and with Boruto: Two Blue Vortex in particular, injecting more lore and stakes, there is a chance that fans might be offered a final answer. Up till that point, Hinata is alive, adored by both her family and the viewers, and will still play a role in the Boruto storyline.
