Dragon Ball Super is the sequel to Dragon Ball Z, directly continuing the work of series creator Akira Toriyama. In the Dragon Ballchronology, it takes place between episodes 288 and 289 of the classic Dragon Ball Z series.

Peace reigns on Earth at the beginning of Dragon Ball Super, but not for long. The anime introduces powerful new characters—Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7, is one of the first. He comes to Earth searching for a powerful warrior called the Super Saiyan God.

Goku accepts the challenge and, after a ritual, unlocks a new level of power. He loses, but Beerus spares the Earth for entertaining him. Not long after, Frieza is revived by using Shenron. He trains for four months before invading Earth. Frieza wins, but Whis, Beerus’s Guide Angel Attendant, sends Goku back in time to defeat Frieza before he can win.

After that, Champa, the God of Destruction of Universe 6 and twin brother of Beerus, shows up. He challenges his brother to a Tournament of Destroyers, where each God of Destruction creates a team to battle the other’s. Universe 7 wins, somewhat anticlimactically, but at that moment, Zeno appears.

Zeno is the King of All Gods, and he says he wants to set up a tournament just like theirs—but for all 12 universes. This brings us to one of the most epic tournaments in all of anime: the Tournament of Power.

The Tournament of Power is one of the most important events in Dragon Ball Super. In this fight, warriors from various universes go head-to-head. The losing universes risk being erased forever. This makes the tournament incredibly intense.

Aside from the tournament, Dragon Ball Super dives into time travel. We finally get to see Zamasu and Goku Black rise in an alternate universe. It shows a future where everything is at risk. Ultimately, they are defeated, and the heroes return to their timeline.

The series also makes room for others in the cast. Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo all get their time to shine. The Universe Survival arc introduces us to amazing fighters from other universes, such as Jiren, Top, Kale, and Caulifla. The story shifts the emphasis from simply wielding raw power to using it wisely.

The anime also shows Frieza in a different light. He joins the team to help in the tournament. This shocked many fans because he was once a major villain. Dragon Ball Super shows how enemies can become allies when the stakes are high.

The anime features new transformations. Goku unlocks Super Saiyan God and later Super Saiyan Blue. But the most powerful form he reaches is Ultra Instinct. In this form, Goku moves without thinking. Dragon Ball Super highlights how far he has come since the early days of Dragon Ball.

This series also explores new places. Characters visit other planets and universes. The animation and fight scenes are exciting. Dragon Ball Super keeps the same energy that fans love from the older series while bringing fresh ideas and new adventures.

Sagas in Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball Super has a lot of interesting sagas from beginning to end. From the God of Destruction Beerus Saga to the “Future” Trunks Saga to the Universe Survival Saga, the anime is filled with bangers.

The Broly Saga that follows is also very interesting. Newer arcs like the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga and Granolah the Survivor are available to read in the manga. They bring more challenges for the Z fighters.

The manga keeps going into the High School Saga, where Trunks and Goten are teenagers in high school. The most recent manga arc is the Super Hero Saga.

Conclusion

It brings back favorite characters and adds new ones. It keeps the story fresh while respecting the past. Dragon Ball Superleaves fans excited for what’s next. Whether it’s more anime episodes, new movies, or manga chapters, the journey isn’t over.

In the end, Dragon Ball Super is about growth, strength, and never giving up. It teaches important lessons through epic battles and strong friendships. Dragon Ball continues to inspire fans around the world—and reminds us that there is always a new level to reach.
