In the Clear Moonlit Dusk, also known as Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki, is a beloved shojo romance manga that has been serialized in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine since July 2020. Created by Mika Yamamori, the series is currently ongoing and has 36 chapters at the time of writing.

After months of rumors and leaks, the official anime adaptation was announced last Thursday by the official Twitter/X account. The In the Clear Moonlit Dusk anime is set to release in January 2026 in the Winter anime season. It will be aired on Japanese stations affiliated with TBS, while its OTT release for worldwide audiences has not been confirmed.

In the Clear Moonlit Dusk is an imaginative take on its genre, subverting several shojo stereotypes. The story follows Yoi Takiguchi, a girl known as “prince” by her classmates due to her elegance and boyish appearance. While spending her days being admired by her peers, her life drastically changes after meeting Kohaku Ichimura.

Kohaku, who is also called “prince” for his immense wealth, is the first person not to judge Yoi for her masculinity. Rather, he does not hesitate to appreciate her beauty and looks. Yoi, who had never been concerned about her appearance till then, realizes that she had been putting on a facade and begins to wish for an ordinary life like other girls.

Despite Kohaku’s intrusion into her world, she gradually grows to feel his warmth. Unsure of her own sentiments, Yoi eventually accepts Kohaku’s suggestion of dating each other for a trial period. As the pair tries to navigate their feelings, they can’t help but cherish each other’s uniqueness and fall in love.

In the Clear Moonlit Dusk is distinctive from most other romantic drama series because it does not trivialize the issues faced by its cast members. Rather than focusing solely on love, the series shines equal light on Yoi’s insecurities and the complex emotions she experiences regarding herself and Kohaku.

The male lead, Kohaku, is also far from the distant hero who only appears to save the day whenever Yoi is in trouble. He is a fascinating character in his own right, showcasing his feelings openly and caring for Yoi in a supportive manner. As a result, In the Clear Moonlit Dusk is an anime everyone can look forward to.

In the Clear Moonlit Dusk’s studio and cast

In the Clear Moonlit Dusk will be animated by East Fish Studio, which worked on A Condition Called Love last year. The series’ director is Yuusuke Maruyama, who has been credited in titles such as the Fate Series and Lycoris Recoil.

Yuuki Fukuda (Jujutsu Kaisen, I Want To Eat Your Pancreas) will be handling the character design, while Tsubasa Itou (The Eminence in Shadow, Welcome to the Ballroom) will be in charge of the music. Finally, Ayumu Hisao, who worked on Kono Oto Tomare! and Spy x Family, will be the series composer.

Yoi Takiguchi will be voiced by newcomer Rei Ichinomiya, while Kohaku Ichimura will be voiced by Ryouta Suzuki (Yuu Ishigami, Ryuusui Nanami).

Given the stunning designs, wholesome dynamics, and memorable characters in the manga, the expectations are higher than ever for the anime adaptation. Hence, fans are hoping that the studio can do justice to the source material when it comes out in January 2026.
