Fate/strange Fake is coming out as an anime at a different time than the usual way that anime shows are being released. The first episode was released on a Saturday night as opposed to the usual weekdays most seasonal anime air during. This way, the show is launching and mirroring its own theme of breaking the standard rules set within the Fate universe.

The release calendar runs from January through late March 2026. Episode 1 aired at 11 p.m. on Saturday nights in Japan beginning January 3. The anticipated time shift for each subsequent episode has been Friday, again at 11 p.m. JST, starting January 10. The entire series is made up of 13 episodes. It will finish with episode 13 airing on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Before the regular broadcast schedule began, the first episode of Fate/strange Fake experienced several early releases. The English dubbing of the show was screened in Hollywood as part of the Fate 20th Anniversary Showcase on November 23, 2024. This event allowed people in North America to see the complete show long before it aired on Japanese TV.

Fate/strange Fake -Whispers of Dawn- is a one-hour-long animated adaptation of the first volume of the light novel series, which aired on TV in July 2023. This episode was a great way to introduce new characters and set up the location for the anime, which is going to be called Snowfield.

It sure took a while for this release schedule to happen! We heard about it back in July 2023 after Whispers of Dawn premiered. The plan was to have all 12 episodes of the series released in 2025, but they saw something at the Aniplex Online Fest on September 5, 2025, that made them change to a January 2026 release

The production team was able to continue producing high-quality animation because of the delay, and because of the directors, Shun Enokido and Takahito Sakazume, returning to direct episodes from Whispers of Dawn, the studio decided to focus on making the episodes as good as they could be, rather than rushing to have them done by the original deadline.

The show had several advance screenings of all the episodes before they were broadcast on television. Episode two was previewed at Fate/Grand Order Fes. 2025, on August 3, 2025, and advance screenings showed episodes one through four at United Cinemas Toyosu on December 6, 2025.

For the best way to watch it, make sure you start with it before you watch the actual series. That is because you'll get a lot of important backstory that sets up the Snowfield Holy Grail War. After you've finished Whispers of Dawn, you can start watching episode 1 and continue with the weekly episodes from that point.

New viewers don't need to know anything about the Fate franchise before watching Strange Fake, but the creators said it can be taken as an independent piece without any other knowledge of the series. However, those familiar with the Holy Grail War will gain a greater understanding of how and why the storyline strays from established lore.

Fans will have a clearer idea of how the Fate/strange Fake series will be released around the world, with the same weekly release format, allowing fans to stay in touch with the crazy events of the Holy Grail War.
