Gintama: 3-Z Ginpachi Sensei Episode 7 continues its chaotic story, and this time, every character in the classroom got good screen time. Fans loved this episode as it was packed with returning characters and callbacks to classic Gintama stories. Those who have watched Episode 7 agree that it was explosive, literally, as it peaked in Gintama Chaos.

This episode began with Ginpachi announcing that their class is part of a clean-up project, and because this is a Gintama spin-off, it obviously wasn’t going to follow the normal plot of school cleaning, Gintama: 3-Z Ginpachi Sensei Episode 7 took a turn when Ginpachi announced a hunt for golden nuggets, which led them to find a suspicious metal capsule that could have been an undetonated bomb.

What comes next is chaos that quickly goes out of hand, followed by multiple visual gags. Fans couldn’t contain their laughter at the intentionally bad explosion animation. This is the only series that can pull off bad animation, and fans still will not criticize it. Rather, they know this is intentional and enjoy these kinds of twists. As Kagura reminds everyone, “Nobody ever dies from an explosion in a comedy anime,” and Gintama: 3-Z Ginpachi Sensei Episode 7 fully embraces that rule.

The hardboiled detective makes a triumphant return

The biggest highlight of Gintama: 3-Z Ginpachi Sensei Episode 7 is how it gave a comeback to the Hardboiled detective, Koeznigata Heiji. He is shown to be on his Harley, and fans loved the fact that he was still over dramatic and equally useless as he was in the original show. This reappearance worked in the favour of the episode as it sent a wave of nostalgic excitement to viewers. His addition to this episode was even more special because his original voice actor, the legendary Unshou Ishizuka, passed away in 2018.

In this episode, he’s voiced by Koji Ishii, and longtime viewers were pleased to see that he captures the character’s ridiculous charm while honoring the spirit of the role. When Heiji enters the scene to investigate the suspicious object found by the students during the cleanup, everyone gathered around it things spiraled before there was any time to make sense of what was happening.

The best part of this episode was when there was a hilarious One Piece at the start of the episode, which was followed by two more references. The best reference to Eiichiro Oda's One Piece was when the iconic dialogue “Kaizoku-ō ni, Luffy wa naru!” was added. Fans watching Gintama: 3-Z Ginpachi Sensei Episode 7 were delighted by how many Jump references, jokes, and chaos were packed into just twenty-something minutes.

Gintama: 3-Z Ginpachi Sensei Episode 7 had a chaotic ending and a strange Takasugi teaser

But the peak gag of Gintama: 3-Z Ginpachi Sensei Episode 7 is the discovery that the “bomb” causing all the panic is actually a time capsule left behind by the school’s president. It had an overly dramatic love confession letter that is popular in the shoujo genre. This episode had a Kimi ni Todoke reference here, and the scene’s execution is a perfect example of Gintama’s ability to parody genres with pinpoint accuracy.

When the group found another time capsule, it turned out to be an explosive. While that was predictable, no one figured out that the production house would use bad animation to show this event. That made the scene funnier, as that was not expected. The end credit scene of Gintama: 3-Z Ginpachi Sensei Episode 7 closes with the continuation of the bizarre Takasugi short that plays every week, but this time he woke up and slept on his bed rather than on the floor. The randomness is exactly the kind of humor longtime fans have come to expect and love.
