Fans of Haikyu!! have a little news because there is a confirmation on the next major projects. The franchise will be following a second sequel film after the sucesfully The Dumpster Battle. But the good news does not stop there because we are also getting a special episode titled Haikyu!! The Place Where Monsters Go in 2027, which will focus on more Nation-level games.

This franchise has gained so much popularity in the sports anime genre because of stellar animation backed up with an interesting story that fans who were not even into sports got hooked on the story. Since Haikyu!! has entered the world of anime it has changed the way people look at this genre. It has set a pedestal for itself and for good reasons.

When this announcement was made, fans were treated to a brand new teaser trailer and a key visual. This was more than enough to reignite the hype around the franchises as the spark in the fandom picked up like it never died down. There have now been active discussions as everyone seems to be looking forward to watching one of Shonen Jump’s most beloved sports series.

Haikyu!!: Karasuno vs Kamomedai finally takes center stage

Haikyuu!!: VS The Little Giant is going to pick me up after Karasuno won the match against Nekoma High. Now, Hinata Shoyo and his team will have to continue to advance to the National quarterfinals. Now they will have to face Kamomedai High School. They are seen as a powerhouse defined by discipline, precision, and aerial defense.

The main highlight of this upcoming movie will be on how the protagonist's team will be playing against Korai Hoshiumi, Kamomedai’s ace, and the player who shares the legendary nickname “The Little Giant.” Hinata's upcoming match holds more importance than just another match. He will be facing someone he dreamed of playing against one day, forcing him to confront what it truly means to carry that title.

The Haikyu!! film is going to be directed by Production I.G, and to maintain the integrity of the series and ensure that the quality of this anime does not backtrack. We also have Susumu Mitsunaka, who will come back as the director, and fans are assured that this installment is going to be something that every sports anime fan will look forward to watching.

The Place Where Monsters Go” brings Bokuto back into focus

This special episode will spotlight the clash between two of the tournament’s most dominant aces, Kotaro Bokuto and Wakatsu Kiryu. The title itself reflects how this match was framed in the manga: a battlefield where elite players shed hesitation and embrace their monstrous competitive instincts.

For fans who worried that Fukurodani’s story might be sidelined or rushed, the special anime comes as a major relief. Bokuto’s growth, leadership, and emotional highs and lows are among Haikyu!!’s strongest character arcs, and dedicating a full episode to this match suggests a more respectful adaptation.

Final thoughts

The manga was serialized from 2012 to 2020, and even to date, Haikyu!! remains to be the Weekly Shonen Jump's influential sports manga. Even when it got an anime adaptation, fans were treated to multiple seasons where we got to witness one of the most intense games of volleyball.

But the production teams, particularly the decision to conclude the story through films, have divided fans. With VS The Little Giant and The Place Where Monsters Go both confirmed for 2027, Haikyu!! is clearly not finished telling its story. For better or worse, the journey continues, and for fans who have waited years to see these legendary Nationals matches animated, 2027 can’t come soon enough.
