Hunter x Hunter features a plethora of formidable characters who display mastery in both Nen and physical combat. However, even in a series filled with individuals with monstrous talent, very few compare to Ging Freecss.
Ging is a highly enigmatic figure and is the person the protagonist, Gon, chases after for the majority of the storyline. When finally introduced, he earned the ire of many for his nonchalant attitude. However, both cast members and fans couldn’t help but agree that Ging Freecss is one of the most powerful characters in Hunter x Hunter.
From the outset, Ging is introduced as a Double Star Hunter and a member of the Zodiacs, the group possessing the most power in the world of Hunters. Though he shows little care for the organization's operations, his capability is highly regarded by even Chairman Netero, who considered Ging to be one of the five best Nen users in the world.

Anime-only fans may not have seen Ging in action much, but they were still able to get a glimpse of the potential he possessed. Using Nen, he created Greed Island, an extremely impressive game that countless users failed to defeat. Ging was a mentor to the powerful Kite and enjoyed travelling to dangerous locations across the world in pursuit of his curiosity.
During the Hunter Chairman Elections, Ging was the only one whose intellect could keep up with Pariston, and though he was hit by Leorio, most could surmise that it happened only because Ging let himself get hit.
Ging’s main power and fearsome skill are revealed only in the Succession Contest Arc, leading up to the journey to the Dark Continent. When interacting with Beyond’s expedition team, he expressed his wish to join them and was constantly one step ahead of Pariston. He could easily dispatch an entire assassin group on his own and even analyze their hidden motivations.
Coming to his abilities, Ging is yet to showcase all his skills, but is already among the strongest in Hunter x Hunter. He was recognized by Netero and has also piqued Hisoka’s curiosity. Ging’s senses are unmatched, where he shows super-fast speed, adaptability, and reflexes. He can rapidly climb the World Tree and react to anyone with ill intentions towards him.
Ging’s intelligence, Nen, and prodigious understanding go hand in hand, both during battle and in the way he lives life. His Nen category is unknown, but Ging can swiftly learn anything he sees and experiences.
In addition to the strategic acumen and knowledge required to create Greed Island, Ging could copy Leorio’s Remote Punch and modify it based on his comprehension. Using its base form, he developed an ultrasound ability to detect his surroundings. He was also able to shoot aura through surfaces, where it traveled past obstacles and hit enemies on the other side.
According to Ging, he can imitate any punching ability he has been hit with. However, Pariston suspects that he can copy other people’s abilities as a whole. Ging has a deep understanding of a variety of subjects and could beat Professor Curly in any topic he chose. He could also easily defeat Usamen, a supposed master at Pip-Play, at his own game.
Is Ging Freecss the strongest character in Hunter x Hunter?
It is too soon to crown Ging Freecss as the strongest character in Hunter x Hunter, but he may very well end up in that position by the end of the series. At this point in the anime and manga, not enough is known about Ging and all his capabilities to accurately assess him.

His intellect and powers have not been beaten yet, but he has also not faced a serious threat. As a result, it is hard to place him higher than characters like Meruem, Netero, and Adult Gon, whose abilities have been proven in the series.
Nevertheless, the less fans know about Ging, the more curious they become. Given the countless threats in the Succession Contest Arc and those awaiting in the Dark Continent, Ging may get his moment in the spotlight soon after the Hunter x Hunter manga returns.
