Hunter x Hunter: How powerful Is Shizuku Murasaki?

Such intricacy in character presentation and the arrangement of power is one of the factors that make Hunter x Hunter still one of the most prestigious anime and manga series. The characters in the work encompass a vast spectrum of personalities, ranging from fighting styles and ideologies, and even a minor character may occasionally shine through their accomplishments.

Shizuku Murasaki fits into the latter category of non-quiet and a bit quirky characters who turn out to be truly powerful members of the Phantom Troupe. Shizuku can clear battlefields, disarm traps, get rid of bodies or crime scenes, and even disarm enemies by literally sucking the weapon out of their hands. The usefulness of her ability lies in its immediacy, and practically speaking, there is no known limit to what she can absorb—making it effective for support or ambushes. The fact that it cannot devour living organisms is its only limitation, which prevents it from being overwhelmingly powerful.

She is, however, not just a support figure who sits and watches. On various occasions, Shizuku has proven that she can defend herself in battle. A good example is her confrontation with Baise in the Yorknew City arc. Faced with an enemy whose ability is based on charm, Shizuku remains unphased, handles the threat with ease, and takes her down within a short time. She is also reserved in her attitude, and her tactical judgment helps her stay several steps ahead of less experienced players.

What makes her even more distinct is the fact that she is a respected member of the Phantom Troupe, also referred to as the Genei Ryodan. It is an organization composed of some of the most dangerous people in the Hunter x Hunter world, and its membership is not easily earned. Shizuku took the place of the former No. 8 member, which shows she was strong enough to be judged worthy by Chrollo Lucilfer, the leader of the Troupe. This association alone speaks volumes about her skills and value in combat and strategic missions.

She also has a tendency to forget certain things intentionally, which is sometimes used for comedic effect, though it should not be confused with incompetence. Shizuku fights defensively, and she is observant and rational. The team is entangled in a deadly power struggle between mafia families and the royal family of Kakin, and Shizuku’s special powers could still be utilized in ways yet unseen.

The anime series based on Hunter x Hunter concluded at the end of the Election arc, long before these events. As such, anime-only followers have not witnessed the extent of Shizuku’s continued role in the manga.
