Is Bleach Worth Watching?

One of the world’s most famous anime series is Bleach. It first appeared in 2004 and ran until 2012, initially with 366 episodes. Down the line, in 2022, it returns to animate the final arc. The plot traced the story of Ichigo Kurosaki, a spiritually aware high school student who acquires Soul Reaper powers. His duty is to protect the living world from spirits called Hollows. The story is about Ichigo getting pulled into battles and the spirit world.

The show also knows how to create a wealth of fun side characters, many of which are characters that have become fan favorites. If you’re into action laced with deep backstories, Bleach serves those in spades. The heroes have beautifully scripted stories that have twists and turns and keep you on the edge of your seats. And so do the villains. From Aizen to Kugo Ginjo to Yhwach, the villains all have something different in their motivations and objectives.

Bleach has a lot of adrenaline-pumping action and epic characters. The anime has everything. Sword fights, sweet abilities, very destructive attacks, you name it, it’s in there. Each of the characters comes with a weapon and fighting style of its own. This means that each and every battle is different and fun in its own way.

Many fans think Bleach has some of the best fights in anime. The show builds up to each battle, and the fights are usually worth the wait. The battles have strong visuals and beautiful choreography. The powers are also very creative. All of the Soul Reapers have one sword that can transform and has a unique ability. Seeing these powers grow over time and what they are capable of is also fun and keeps things interesting and fresh.

But fighting is not the only thing in Bleach. It also does quite a bit of character development. Ichigo is a regular kid, but he gradually learns what it means to protect others. His friends also grow in their own ways. Rukia, Renji, and others deal with their pasts, and their stories are just as fascinating. The anime takes time to show how these bonds form, which makes the emotional moments hit harder.

Bleach isn't flawless, though. The quantity of filler episodes is one of the main grievances. The anime occasionally adds material that was not included in the manga and deviates from the main plot. Although they can disrupt the flow, these fillers are intended to give the manga more time to progress. Some fans choose to skip these parts to stay with the main plot. But in all honesty, not all of them are engaging.

Another problem is the pacing. Some arcs take time to get going and stall in the middle. At times, the fights or storylines can feel drawn out or overly stretched. That’s not to say that when the anime is not strictly following the plot, it’s not quality stuff. When the anime follows the main plot, it’s mostly great. The Thousand-Year Blood War arc and the Soul Society arc are favorite highlights among fans. These arcs are part of the best Bleach has to offer.

The animation isn't bad, especially in the newer episodes. The early parts of the show have a dated look, but it still holds up well. The recent return of the anime, which covers the final arc, looks much better. It has updated animation, cleaner designs, and better fight scenes. This updated animation style helps attract new viewers while keeping longtime fans invested.

Bleach has spectacular music as well. Its soundtrack contains a variety of rock, jazz, and emotional music. Any number of songs like “Number One” and “Treachery” have stuck in many fans’ heads that play during big moments. These songs work to give fights and scenes a heightened sense of drama and excitement. Many fans still enjoy rewatching Bleach’s iconic opening themes for their catchy tunes and nostalgic value.

Bleach is a series that’s been ongoing for a lot of years, and part of that longevity can be put down to world-building. The Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and other localities come to feel like real, lived-in spaces with their own rules and systems. The series introduces a plethora of other character races, including Arrancars, Quincy, and Fullbringers. Each group has something different to add to the story and keeps it fresh.
