MAPPA's got conflicting reports messin' up the waiting game for Vinland Saga Season 3. There was some hope from a French newspaper interview that said the series is "in preparation," but Makoto Yukimura's recent posts on social media indicate otherwise.

To keep it straightforward, there hasn't been a confirmed production yet for Vindland Saga Season 3. In January of 2025, Yukimura said to the French newspaper Le Monde that the production for the animated series based on his manga had begun. He then told them (a year later) that he had not received any updates from the producers about how the production was progressing.

The way that Thorfinn will be shown in Vinland Saga Season 3 is still very uncertain, even though most of the staff on the production say they are very excited about completing it.

When French media outlet Le Monde ran an interview with the creator of Vinland Saga, Makoto Yukimura, in January 2025, the buzz around Season three of the show really picked up! They said that the third season was being worked on and that many fans from around the world got super excited about hearing this news!

A follow-up investigation revealed important context. The journalist confirmed that the details regarding season 3 were told to the journalist by Yukimura in their discussion (not from anything else). Since this record was made a year ago, the circumstances surrounding Yukimura's show have likely changed significantly.

In January 2026, Yukimura released a statement on his social media platforms in response to the many rumors of production that were circulating about him at that time. He acknowledged that he became aware of these rumors through social media, but that he had thus far not received any information concerning the development of any projects affiliated with him personally.

The latest update on Vinland Saga Season 3 by the creator of the manga has indicated that he is optimistic about the reports regarding Hild's crossbow getting animated, but has also noted some issues that could arise when converting this into animation from the manga form.

In his comment, Yukimura also made a few jokes regarding the fact that although he completed work on the manga in July of 2025, he will have plenty of spare time to give back to the production companies by helping them out by doing anything as going to get lunch for people.

His humorous approach shows how excited Yukimura is to finally see his hard work put into a finished product.

Vinland Saga Season 3 is going to cover the Eastern Expedition Arc (Baltic Sea War Arc), which takes place from chapters 100 - 166 of the manga, the entire content for a complete season.

The story follows Thorfinn and Einar as they travel across the Baltic Sea to acquire wealth for their peaceful settlement in Vinland; however, on their journey, they become embroiled in the ongoing conflict between the Vikings and the Jomsvikings' succession dispute.

The new characters would consist of Hild, a great crossbow shooter with ties to Thorfinn's life; Garm, a battle-obsessed warrior; and Gudrid, who joins the group after breaking away from an unwanted marriage. All three characters would develop and enhance the overall character connection in the series.

Although the Le Monde interview raised a lot of hopes about Vinland Saga Season 3, the creator Makoto Yukimura's comments tell a completely different story: as of January 2026, there will not be any active production going on for season 3.
