Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: Can Yuta’s ring create the next invincible sorcerer?

When Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo debuted, fans were immediately intrigued by its bold departure from the original series. Set decades after Sukuna's downfall, the spinoff reintroduces us to the cursed world through the eyes of Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren. Yet among all the political intrigue, alien arrivals, and family drama, one object has sparked the most debate: the mysterious ring left behind by Yuta.

This ring, believed to contain a fragment of Rika’s essence, has become the centerpiece of sibling rivalry between Yuta’s grandchildren: Yuka and Tsurugi. But the central question lingers: is this ring the key to creating the next invincible sorcerer, a force on par with the legends of the past?

The ring in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a direct link to this legacy. Gifted by Yuta to his granddaughter Yuka, it is believed to house a portion of Rika’s essence, or at least the immense cursed energy that Yuta channeled throughout his life. Whether it serves as a guardian, a weapon, or both remains the burning question.

From the very first chapter of Modulo, we see the ring is less a simple artifact and more a symbol of division. This sibling tension reflects one of Gege Akutami’s recurring narrative tools: Dualities and rivalries. Just as Gojo and Geto, or Yuji and Sukuna, embodied conflicting ideals, Yuka and Tsurugi represent a new generational clash.

Yuka relies on cursed energy and intellect, while Tsurugi leans into raw physical strength, praised by the clan for embodying martial discipline. But here lies the misinterpretation: The Gojo clan claims the ring responds to physical strength, and thus Tsurugi is best suited for it. However, some readers suspect this is a ruse.

By denying Yuka the ring, the clan may be intentionally stifling her growth, fearing that if she awakens Rika’s power, she will become uncontrollable. The clans of Jujutsu Kaisen have always thrived on control, and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo suggests little has changed even in this new era.

Could the Ring truly revive Rika in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo?

One of the hottest debates among fans is whether Rika can still manifest through the ring. Canonically, Rika’s soul was released at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and by the main series, she existed only as part of Yuta’s technique.

If Yuta has died by the events of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, does Rika vanish completely? Or did his cursed energy transform the ring into a special-grade tool, much like Nanami’s cleaver or the Inverted Spear of Heaven? There are a few possibilities here:

  1. Protective Spirit Theory: The ring doesn’t summon Rika in full but acts as a guardian imbued with Yuta’s will. This makes sense narratively, as Yuta’s final gift to his granddaughter would be protection, not power.
  2. Special Grade Cursed Tool: Over decades of channeling Yuta’s energy, the ring may have absorbed enough cursed energy to act as a near-limitless reservoir. Whoever wields it gains immense reinforcement and potentially access to Yuta’s copied techniques.
  3. Rika’s True Return: The boldest possibility is that Rika, as a cursed entity, still lingers in some form. If Yuka unlocks this connection, she could fully manifest Rika once more, effectively inheriting Yuta’s greatest weapon.

Any of these interpretations would make the ring one of the most important cursed objects in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, and possibly the spark for the next era of jujutsu sorcery.

Final thoughts

So, can Yuta’s ring truly create the next invincible sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo? The answer lies in how Modulo develops Yuka’s journey. If she inherits Yuta’s Copy technique, learns to harmonize with Rika, and overcomes the manipulations of the Gojo clan, she may indeed rise to rival the greatest sorcerers in history.

If Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo stays true to the original series' core themes, the answer won’t come easily. But one thing is certain: the Queen of Curses may not be finished shaping the future.
