The Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 16 starts with the fight between Dabura and Mahoraga. But before the chapter jumps straight into the action, we get some information from the narrator. Readers are made aware that the Ten Shadows Technique is seen as a forbidden move within the Gojo clan, although it is originally tied to the Zen'in clan.

In Yuka’s case, she was granted special permission to use only manifested extracts of the technique rather than fully summoning shikigami. This move is deemed forbidden, but we do not get a reason as to why the elders came to that decision.

But this could clearly imply that the Ten Shadows is unstable, dangerous, and potentially catastrophic in the wrong hands. Yuka’s limited usage now feels less like a restraint and more like a warning that she was never meant to go this far.

Mahoraga’s mythos is reinforced immediately afterward. Among all Ten Shadows shikigami, Mahoraga is the only one deemed impossible to tame, with the sole exception being Ryomen Sukuna while incarnated in Megumi Fushiguro’s body.

The narration in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 16 clarifies an important rule: Mahoraga cannot be used in standard combat. It can only be unleashed through a suicide exorcism ritual, where the summoner drags an enemy into a fight neither side is meant to survive.

The chapter jumps into showing us the action, and now things are going to get intense. Dabura unleashes devastating light-based attacks that tear through Mahoraga’s body and level entire skyscrapers. Yet each time Mahoraga’s wheel spins, it adapts by regenerating limbs instantly and returning stronger. It seems like humanity has a chance to win this battle.

Dabura soon realizes that Mahoraga is neither a curse spirit nor a conventional entity, deducing it to be something unique to Earth’s cursed energy system: A shikigami. More importantly, he finally understands Mahoraga’s core ability: Adaptation. Unfortunately, by the time Dabura pieces this together, the wheel has already spun multiple times.

Just as the Mahoraga fight reaches a critical point, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 16 cuts to Tsuguri vs Maru, confirming long-standing fan theories. Tsuguri is officially revealed to possess a Heavenly Restriction, completely abandoning cursed energy in exchange for overwhelming physical ability. Maru struggles to read his movements because there is no cursed energy flow to track.

After understanding that Tsuguri is completely overpowered, Maru is shown to finally abandon restraint, and he activates his cursed technique, Chaos and Harmony. It wraps the orientation itself and completely disorients Tsuguri. The Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 16 then ends on this brutal double cliffhanger.

Final thoughts

Between Mahoraga’s horrifying adaptation, Yuka’s suspended death, and Maru finally choosing to fight seriously, the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 16 sets the stage for catastrophic consequences and possibly Yuji’s long-awaited intervention.
