A myth reawakened: The three heavenly Cursed Gods.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 8 starts with a blank page, and on that page is an illustration of a rock. While the translation may vary when the chapter officially releases, according to the spoilers, it reads:
“When gods clashed, the heavens trembled and the seas roared. Those who survived the ancient cataclysm would pass down forbidden rites and the words of the gods. Even now, they sleep beneath sacred stones. The story of their demise begins anew.”
This introduction in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 8 is a hint at what to expect. It is actually a callback to the time when divine beings ruled the world and cursed humanity with endless cycles of war and rebirth.
Many fans believe this passage ties into the “curse of coexistence,” a theme that Gege Akutami continues to explore. It was evident in Jujutsu Kaisen, where Akutami shows how different races, tribes, or ideologies are doomed to repeat violence until someone dares to break the cycle.
The past of the twins: Cross and Maru

The story goes into a flashback centered around Maru and Cross. In this flashback, they are still children full of mischief. The duo is discovered by a tall, long-haired Sumerian named Doura, a wise and composed figure who decides to take them in after they are caught stealing.
Rather than punish them harshly, Doura in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 8 chooses to teach them discipline through labor. He assigns them to help build a canal, but Maru and Cross initially resist, even trying to attack Doura, and are easily overpowered.
Despite their defiance, Doura admires their fighting spirit and keeps them close. Over time, the twins grow attached to him, especially Maru, who sees Doura as a mentor.
The symbolism of the Canal in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 8

The canal project becomes the heart of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 8 and a powerful metaphor for coexistence. Doura explains that the Loomer tribe and the Disgante tribe have long been separated by geography and history.
The Loomers live in barren, drought-ridden lands, while the Disgantes prosper elsewhere. Building a canal will allow water and trade to flow freely between the two, literally and symbolically bridging their differences.
Cross is not convinced by this explanation, as he believes the Loomers are being exploited by the Disgantes and that helping them will only lead to more suffering. This skepticism is reflected when he collaborates with the main duo in Modulo.
Cross and Doura represent feelings of doubt and hope. Where one always has trust issues, the other embodies forgiveness, showing that a shared purpose can heal generations of hatred.
Betrayal and understanding

Conflict in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 8 arises when the canal is sabotaged overnight, setting the project back to zero. Maru suspects Cross, but Doura immediately defends him, sensing that external agitators are to blame.
It turns out that Cross was innocent; a faction of Loomer rebels destroyed the work out of prejudice, believing Doura was collaborating with the enemy.
This enraged Cross, and he went to attack them. In the end, however, he returned to Doura and Maru out of respect and care for them. While both tried to make him understand the importance of coexistence, it took combined efforts. Years later, the trio successfully completed the canal.
A fragile peace and a sudden tragedy

This canal was seen as a symbol of hope, and the tribes actually agreed to open trade. Doura, Cross, and Maru were finally able to witness the fruits of their efforts. But Gege introduces a twist, as fans have noted that in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, peace does not seem to last.
The sacred creature Kerrion, once thought to be a myth, reawakens and devours the daughter of the Disgante chief, causing hatred to resurface, the very feeling the canal sought to erase. This ending serves as a reminder to readers that some things that took years to build can crumble in a second.
