Naoya Zenin, in this story, is the cousin of Maki, Mai, and Toji Fushiguro, members of the infamous Zenin clan, one of Jujutsu Kaisen’s “Big Three Families.” So one thing is for sure: he is not someone to be messed with. He is a special grade 1 sorcerer with remarkable skill in hand-to-hand combat and Projection Sorcery.

It is a kind of immensely powerful technique that allows him to divide a second into 24 frames and move within them, creating blindingly fast attacks. However, beyond his skill, Naoya is infamous for his arrogance and toxic personality. He’s a misogynistic narcissist who constantly looks down on his family,

It is this combination of power and arrogance that he has that makes him a perfect role of an antagonist. Naoya always believes himself to be better and superior to anyone else around him. To add to his arrogance, he also strongly believes that males are above women, and this ideology made manga readers despise him.

When his father, Naobito Zenin, died, Naoya expected to inherit the position of clan head, but instead, Megumi Fushiguro was chosen. Enraged and humiliated, Naoya plotted Megumi’s death, setting off a chain of events that would ultimately lead to his own downfall.

How will Naoya's introduction affect Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3?

Before the anime dives into the chaotic Culling Games plot, season 3 will cover events surrounding Yuji’s fate after the end of the Shibuya arc. This includes Yuta's role in the story and also the rise of new enemies, in which Naoya's name is also included.

The upcoming movie of Jujutsu Kaisen is premiering in Japan on November 7, 2025, and this will set the stage for these events in the story. That is why Naoya’s appearance in the new key visual confirms that MAPPA plans to give the Zenin clan’s tragic saga the attention it deserves.

Final thoughts

With Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 on the horizon, fans can expect nothing short of breathtaking animation, emotional storytelling, and the rise of one of the series’ most loathed yet fascinating villains. Whether you hate him or love to hate him, Naoya Zenin is about to make his mark, again.
