Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai is bringing a Kindergartener to life through theatre in January. East Fish Studios has created a unique horror-comedy that takes traditional supernatural anime concepts and flips them 180 degrees by having a little girl (5-year-old) fight supernatural forces.

Fans outside of Japan will be able to catch up on the episode shortly after the Japanese broadcast thanks to Crunchyroll simulcasting the series worldwide! A five-year-old girl, Kaya, has developed a reputation for being a troublemaker at her kindergarten, where teachers and staff struggle to control her disruptive behaviour. However, no one has ever figured out what is actually going on with her behaviour until Chie-sensei starts to take care of Kaya and learns of Kaya's unique talent.

Kaya has the incredible gift of being able to see ghosts and evil spirits that others can't see. Instead of being scared and running away, Kaya bravely takes on evil ghosts with her bare hands. The way she acts out in class and at home is her way of being to help others and protect them from these evil spirits.

East Fish Studio is doing the animation production for Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai, and director Hiroshi Ikehata, who directed Dark Gathering, is in charge of the horror anime aspect of it. His style is different than most other directors, so it will be interesting to see how he brings that into a setting like kindergarten. This is going to be a different type of horror anime from anything we've ever seen before

Shigeru Murakoshi is the head of series composition, and Ninja Kamui is his most recent work. Taro Yamada and Hiroyuki Moriguchi are responsible for the character designs, and KOHTA YAMAMOTO and Shun Narita, who paired for Dark Gathering, wrote the soundtrack.

Voice Cast and Theme Songs

The main character, Kaya, will be voiced by Azusa Tachibana, and her teacher, Chie-sensei, will be voiced by Maaya Uchida. There are lots of other talented actors who play side characters in Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai, including Yuki Kaji as Namu, Toshiyuki Morikawa as Kaya's dad, and Mamiko Noto as Kaya's mom.

Isekaijoucho wrote and performed "Maboroshi no Yukue," the theme song that plays when the show begins. SAK & TAO sing the outro theme "Playmour feat. Kaya-chan."The story really begins here, with a spooky kindy's heroine.

What to Expect from the Series

Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai is going to be four episodes of horror action goodness, dealing with the subject of heroic misunderstanding. Kaya's not a bad kid; she's just trying to protect those around her by protecting them from an enemy that can't see them. But sadly, in doing so, she tends to find herself in trouble with her own actions.

Unlike most anime horror shows with older heroes (like a teenager, for example), this series takes place in a preschool environment where young kids are the heroes. This gives an interesting contrast to these innocent kids and the dark spiritual enemies they encounter.
