Lazarus has released its finale episode on 29th June, 2025, and with that, we have concluded this highly anticipated series. The premise of the story revolved around the main characters taking on the responsibility of finding Dr. Skinner. They had 30 days to locate him and stop humanity from becoming extinct.

In this world, there was a medicine known as Hapna, and anyone who took it would be immune to pain. On a fateful date, Dr. Skinner announced to the world that they had 30 days to find him, or anyone who had taken the Hapna medicine would die. The last 12 episodes kept building up, and the characters got closer and closer to finding him.

This intense chase revealed a lot of information about the world, as we got to see how global warming was affecting it, the rise of cult culture, and a lot of intense drama. In Episode 12, with the help of the Popcorn Wizard, they managed to locate Dr. Skinner.

Interestingly, he had been hiding in plain sight all along. Skinner was in the homeless camp the entire time. Many fans had noticed a blind man resembling him in Episode 3, and they were right.

The Lazarus team, with Hersch Lindemann, located him with the help of Jill. Leland had a clue about him always keeping a rare tulip around, and they were able to find him easily.

By the time they reached him, it was too late for Skinner to survive, as he was almost at the last stage. Though it was too late to save him, Skinner managed to give them the antidote formula before quietly passing away.

Why did Dr. Skinner pull off this elaborate stunt in Lazarus?

He had to pull off such an intense action because no one was ready to listen to him. INSCOM was secretly developing a biological weapon, and Skinner opposed the project. He wanted to expose the truth to the world.

When he tried to bring light to this incident and decided to leak the information to Europe, the army ambushed him, causing the incident at the airport that ended up killing many people. This incident gave Skinner a plan; he decided to create Hapna, as he wanted to do something that could not be covered up by the authorities.

What happened to the assassin and his relation with the Hundun project?

It is revealed that Hundun was a secret project to create assassins. This project was run by the Ministry of State Security. They would take children, strip them of emotions, and turn them into mindless weapons. The assassin was one such child who ended up killing everyone and escaping.

Because he was part of this project, the trauma deeply scarred him psychologically, giving him dissociative identity disorder. In his final fight with Axel, the protagonist finally remembers everything.

Although he blows up the chopper sent to take Axel and him, which results in crushing the building, he too ends up being crushed and dies. He gets a bittersweet ending, as he is no longer manipulated by anyone and is free.

Axel, the protagonist, had an intense fight with the assassin and miraculously survived despite being heavily injured. Christine Blake was on her way to save him and bring him to the camp to meet the others and confront Skinner.

Meanwhile, Leland and Hersch Lindemann had already reached the location and were locating Skinner. They confronted him, and while that was happening, the final duo, Eleina and Doug Hadine, walked in.

Dr. Skinner had a heartfelt conversation with Hersch and Axel and then died. The team ends up threatening Hersch as they realize that the plan was to eliminate them after the mission. At that moment, their bracelets fall off, and Abel gives them the option to work as Team Lazarus and help get rid of corruption.

After acquiring the antidote, it seems like the world is ready to embrace pain. The cure is spread worldwide, and humanity is saved. Side characters like Skinner’s grandmother and Popcorn Wizard are all living a peaceful life.

Christine Blake has gone to give her condolences where her lover had died. The person responsible for overseeing the biological weapon assignment is put in front of the courthouse.

Leland is shown entering his mansion, so we can presume that he will take over. Finally, we see a shot of Axel resting in their HQ, and the anime concludes.

Final thoughts

Lazarus began as a race against time but evolved into a powerful story about truth, sacrifice, and the importance of pain in the human experience.
