The Mojuro Chapter 1 is titled 'Special Grade Circumstance,' and from the very first panels, it is clear that this spin-off is more than a mere epilogue; it is a bold expansion of the JJK mythos.

A new threat from the heavens

The Mojuro Chapter 1 opens not in Japan, but in the skies above Nevada. Narration reveals that a massive mothership called Naunax has arrived in Earth’s atmosphere, carrying nearly 50,000 aliens known as the Simurians. These extraterrestrials, identified as refugees, have come seeking protection.

Already, the manga establishes a massive scale beyond what Jujutsu Kaisen ever explored; human sorcerers are no longer the sole supernatural power on Earth.

The Simurians’ arrival sparks political intrigue. While one alien authority figure expresses disbelief that Japan, not the U.S., is handling diplomatic negotiations, another explains that America has delegated such responsibilities to Japan. The justification? A mysterious race within Japan wields power equal to the aliens themselves. These beings are known to us as sorcerers.

This early reveal redefines the playing field: Sorcerers are now recognized on a planetary scale, setting up an inevitable clash or alliance between Earth’s cursed energy users and alien refugees.

Interestingly, we are reintroduced to a familiar name: Yuta Okkotsu, the beloved protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Now an old man, Yuta has become a grandfather, raising a new generation of sorcerers after the death of his wife, Maki Zen’in. Their grandchildren are the heart of Mojuro.

  • Okotsu Yuka (10 years old): A spirited but grieving girl who inherits her grandfather’s willpower. Yuka is deeply attached to a ring gifted to her by Yuta, a cursed object that symbolizes both protection and responsibility. She vows to become a sorcerer worthy of its power.
  • Okotsu Tsurugi (11 years old): Yuka’s older brother, stoic and diligent, but emotionally distant. He is recognized by the Gojo clan as the rightful bearer of the cursed ring, sparking resentment and rivalry between the siblings.

A world of kidnappings and cursed trafficking

From personal drama, the narrative escalates into darker territory. In Kyoto, reports emerge of children being abducted, their disappearances linked to cursed energy trafficking. Japanese citizens, because of their innate connection to cursed energy, fetch a high value on the black market. This chilling development ties Mojuro’s themes of supernatural horror with very real anxieties about human exploitation.

The kidnappings appear connected to barrier techniques, a curse user manipulates paths and lines of sight to subtly guide wandering individuals into traps. It is an ingenious yet terrifying ability, allowing children to vanish without a trace.

At this point in Mojuro Chapter 1, we meet the third main character and arguably the most important: Maruru Val Ul Yelvri, or simply Maru. Initially introduced as a foreign sorcerer working as an investigator, Maru is soon revealed to be the very Simurian alien from the opening scene. His presence bridges the gap between the refugee aliens and Earth’s sorcerers.

The sibling rivalry intensifies

Yuka and Tsurugi’s sibling rivalry dominates much of Mojuro Chapter 1. Yuka resents her brother for taking the cursed ring, accusing him of flaunting his strength without truly understanding their family’s legacy. Meanwhile, Tsurugi views himself as merely following the Gojo clan’s orders, even though he trains relentlessly to prove his worth.

The flashbacks with their grandparents (Yuta and Maki) deepen the emotional core. Maki insists that the ring is a protective charm meant specifically for Yuka, while Tsurugi, confident in his natural strength, is told he doesn’t need one.

This favoritism leaves Tsurugi bitter, fueling his desire to prove himself. The siblings’ conflict parallels one of the oldest themes in JJK: The struggle between personal bonds and the expectations imposed by clans and traditions.

The trio: Yuka, Tsurugi, and Maru, begin investigating the kidnappings. Yuka cleverly deduces the nature of the barrier technique, recognizing how it manipulates children into following cursed paths. Maru praises her intelligence, encouraging her to showcase her true abilities.

But the mission soon escalates in Mojuro Chapter 1. When they track down the kidnappers, they discover that the abductions are tied not just to curses, but to human traffickers exploiting cursed energy for profit. A mysterious antagonist named Tsugi emerges, taunting Tsurugi and revealing plans to sell sorcerers as products.

The battle is chaotic and layered. Yuka uses her cursed technique, K9 Jaw Strike, to launch a ferocious attack, but she is swiftly countered. Tsurugi, wielding a cursed sword despite his lack of cursed energy, proves his combat skill. Maru, despite claiming he cannot intervene, activates his third eye, instantly incapacitating the enemy and saving the children.

The fight showcases the trio’s potential: Yuka’s fiery determination, Tsurugi’s physical discipline, and Maru’s mysterious alien powers.
