My Hero Academia: Does Best Jeanist die?

In My Hero Academia, if we have to talk about a hero who has an unexpected flair and power, there is one character that stands out. Best Jeanist is one such hero who carries his denim-clad elegance, calm demeanor, and firm ideals.

In this story, he does not have explosive powers like Bakugo or speed like Ida, but his presence is always commanding. For the longest time, he previously held the ranks of No. 4 and later No. 3 Pro Hero. But after the climax of the series, fans have been wondering if Best Jeanist died in My Hero Academia.

The short answer to this question is that Best Jeanist does not die in My Hero Academia. Although Dabi revealed to the world that he had killed Best Jeanist, it was part of a plan to buy some time. Jeanist went into hiding as part of a deep-cover operation coordinated by the government and the Hero Public Safety Commission.

Best Jeanist’s fate is thrown into question during the Hideout Raid Arc and even more so in the Pro Hero Arc and Paranormal Liberation War Arc. After sustaining serious injuries during the mission to take down the League of Villains, Jeanist is hospitalized. Though weakened, he is still determined to continue his heroic work.

After Dabi announced the death of Best Jeanist to the world, it turned out to be a decoy body. By faking his death, the heroes could let the League believe they had eliminated a top Pro Hero and allow Hawks to infiltrate deeper into enemy ranks. The plan involved Hawks leaking false information and presenting a corpse to the League, buying time and deepening his infiltration

His appearance in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes

While his first appearance was made in the main series, in terms of the series’ canonical timeline, Best Jeanist was introduced in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. In Vigilantes, we see him during his earlier years as a hero, before he reached the top ranks. These glimpses into his past help flesh out his character and offer insight into how he became the meticulous, denim-wearing icon he is today.

This side story enhances our understanding of why Jeanist takes such pride in appearance and why he holds such high standards. It’s not vanity, it’s philosophy. To him, how you carry yourself reflects how seriously you take your duty as a hero.
